Ram Trilogy

Ram Trilogy is a drum and bass DJ and producer trio.

Ram Records bosses Andy C and Ant Miles (a duo formerly known as Origin Unknown) united with fellow Ram producer Shimon to form Ram Trilogy. The three debuted with a trio of singles during the last half of 1998, the tracks "No Reality" / "Scanners", followed by "Mind Overload" / "Intercity" and "Chase Scene" / "Terminal 1". All three singles took as their template the darkstep style becoming well known throughout the jungle scene. A year later they released the first album ever released on Ram Recordings, Molten Beats.

In 2002 three of their single releases reached the UK Singles Chart - "Chapter Four" (#71), "Chapter 5" (#62) and "Chapter 6" (#60).

In 2003 Ram Trilogy released the "Screamer" EP on vinyl, including the tracks "Skittles" and "Evolution".

In 2008 Ram Trilogy had a song released on the Audioporn Records, on the E.P 'The Quarks' entitled 'Asylum'.

Andy C

Andrew Clarke, known by his stage name Andy C, is an English DJ and producer and co-founder of RAM Records. He is considered a pioneering force in the drum and bass genre. In 2011 Andy C won the Best DJ title in the 2011 Drum and Bass Arena Awards, and since the awards' inception in 2009, he has won the people's vote in the awards for Best DJ each year. He specialises in fast mixing, often employing three turntables. A signature mixing style of Andy is what he refers to as "The Double Drop": lining up 2 tunes so that both basslines drop at the same time. Andy C has often organised events where he DJs continuously for 6 hours. In January 2011 Mixmag UK announced the result of 14 month global poll from 35 nominations chosen by other big names in dance music: the survey asked global voters to decide Who is the Greatest DJ of All Time Andy C was ranked number 4 on it and the highest British DJ on the list.

Music career

Early years

Andy C was a DJ in his own right but gained a strong reputation and more bookings off the back of the hugely successful "Valley of The Shadows" track, an early drum and bass track that walked the line perfectly between hardcore and drum and bass just as the genres were starting to split. The track, created and released by Origin Unknown (made up of Andy C and Ant Miles)—often referred to as "31 Seconds" or "Long Dark Tunnel" because of the samples it incorporates—made use of a heavy bassline, bell samples and a rolling drum track to produce a popular, easy to recognise track that was easy to mix and became a favourite in dance floors at raves across the UK and beyond. The track was released as an EP in 1993 and has been remixed and re-released several times, and is widely recognised as one of the most influential drum and bass tunes of the early 90s. His signature look (Andy C is rarely seen without a baseball cap) and energetic movement behind the decks when playing make him a recognisable figure.

Trilogy

A trilogy (from Greek τρι- tri-, "three" and -λογία -logia, "discourse") is a set of three works of art that are connected, and that can be seen either as a single work or as three individual works. They are commonly found in literature, film, or video games. Three-part works that are considered components of a larger work also exist, such as the triptych or the three-movement sonata, but they are not commonly referred to with the term "trilogy."

Most trilogies are works of fiction involving the same characters or setting, such as The Deptford Trilogy of novels by Robertson Davies and The Apu Trilogy of films by Satyajit Ray. Others are connected only by theme: for example, each film of Krzysztof Kieślowski's Three Colors trilogy explores one of the political ideals of the French Republic (liberty, equality, fraternity) and each novel in Paul Auster's The New York Trilogy uses formats from detective fiction to explore existential questions. Trilogies can also be connected in less obvious ways, such as The Nova Trilogy of novels by William S. Burroughs, each written using cut-up technique.

RAM Records

RAM Records is an independent record label established in 1992 by Andy C with the help of very close friend Ant Miles. It is one of the labels specialising in drum and bass.

The label and business today is run by Andy C and business partner Scott Bourne (Red One). Ram Records is a multi award winning organisation for its label activities, the music it releases, and the artists it has signed over the years. Moving Fusion's Turbulance was instrumental in moving RAM forward in the early 2000s and was the number one voted-for track in drum and bass at the Mercury Music Prize in 2000. As well as Ram's musical output, the label is also very well known for its club nights, the most famous of which started at the London nightclub 'The End', and lasted 11 years till the club's closure in December 2008. Moving on from The End to super-club Matter in February 2009, Ram's attendees tripled from 1000 to over 3000 people within 2 months and lasted till Matter's closure in June 2010. Ram's new home is Fabric nightclub in Farringdon, London.
