The boy from the Congo who became an Australian playwright: Future D. Fidel

Future was born in a rural village in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

When he was a boy, the country descended into lawlessness and violence. Future was orphaned and forced to flee as a stowaway to Tanzania.

Eventually he was accepted as a refugee to Australia, where he now lives with his brother and sister.

Future's first major play, Prize Fighter is about a former child soldier, now a brilliant young boxer living in the Australian suburbs.

Even in the ring, he has to fight off vivid and sometimes violent memories of his childhood.

Telling a story with much in common with Future's own life, Prize Fighter has had successful seasons in Sydney and Brisbane.
