A Canberra man who allegedly crashed into a parked car outside his children's primary school has been charged with high-range drink driving.

About 3:15pm on Tuesday police were called to Garran Primary School following reports the man, while attempting a three-point turn, had driven into another car that had two children and an adult inside.

No-one was injured and the 55-year-old provided his details to those in the parked car before picking up his two children and driving the short distance home, police said.

Shortly afterward officers went to the man's home and breath-tested him.

He returned a result of 0.159, more than three times the legal limit, police said.

In a statement, Sergeant Harry Hains from ACT Police said it was lucky no-one was hurt.

"It's appalling that someone would drive drunk with two children in the car and with children all around in a school zone," he said.

The man's licence was immediately suspended for three months and he will be summonsed to face the ACT Magistrates Court.
