A Hobart jury has found Klaus Dieter Neubert, 74, guilty of the shooting murder of his estranged wife Olga, 37, in a Hobart road almost two yeas ago in 2015.

Neubert did not react when the jury delivered its unanimous verdict, which it reached in less than two hours.

The court heard Neubert had cut down a rifle and carried it with him in his four-wheel-drive in the three weeks leading up to the murder.

His lawyer told the court Neubert had intended to shoot himself in front of his wife.

Witnesses gave evidence Neubert had blocked his wife's car in heavy traffic on Risdon Road, after which he walked directly up to her window and fired the weapon.

The court heard the barrel of the rifle was pressed against Mrs Neubert's head when he fired the fatal shot.

The jury also unanimously found Neubert guilty of causing grievous bodily harm to his wife's friend and passenger Josephine Ramos Cooper.

The court heard Mrs Cooper suffered a serious injury to her hand when she tried to shield her friend.

The trial also heard from witnesses who ran to help disarm Neubert.

A prison officer gave evidence that Neubert described being depressed because of the breakdown in his relationship and that Olga had left him for another man.

Neubert told police officer Marcella Dewis that he had snapped because there was no hope of reconciling his relationship.

Neubert will be sentenced next week.
