LGUs, PNP top 2 agencies with most number of cases filed before Ombudsman
THE embattled Philippine National Police ranked second, next to the local government units, on the list of agencies with most number of cases filed with the Office of the Ombudsman in 2016.
In a statement, the Ombudsman cited the report of its Finance and Management Information Office, showing that for last year, a total of 2,799 cases were filed against officials from the local government units and 1,022 cases against officers of the PNP. The Department of Education came in third with 222 cases.
President Rodrigo Duterte had said that some 6,000 policemen were included in his "narco list."
"The 2,799 cases filed against local government units are broken down as follows: 1,700 cases filed against city/municipal officials; 892 cases versus barangay officials and 204 cases against provincial officials," the Ombudsman said.
Also included in the top 10 government agencies with most cases filed before the Ombudsman last year include: Armed Forces of the Philippines with 201 cases; Department of Environment and Natural Resources, 120; State Universities and Colleges, 109; Bureau of Customs, 104; Department of Justice, 88; Department of Agriculture, 85; and House of Representatives, 84.
The cases consist of administrative and criminal cases, the Ombudsman said. (SDR/SunStar Philippines)
