New Social Justice Commissioner a strong advocate for Aboriginal peoples
The NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) has welcomed the appointment of June Oscar as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner.
NSWALC Chair Roy Ah-See said Ms Oscar was an excellent choice with a proven record in improving the lives of Aboriginal peoples.
"Ms Oscar is a strong leader and advocate who is well-known for leading the community campaign to restrict the sale of full-strength alcohol in the Kimberley region.
"As well, Ms Oscar has been a driving force in a wide range of issues affecting Aboriginal peoples, including language revitalisation, health and women's rights.
"Ms Oscar will be a powerful advocate for our rights and our fight for healthier lives and greater social and economic participation."
