The opportunity
The Manager Land & Property assists the NSWALC Council in meeting its statutory obligations under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (ALRA) for the assessment and approval of all Land Council Land Dealing matters, including those undertaken by 120 Local Aboriginal Land Councils (LALCs). The Manager is responsible for ensuring the core function of the NSWALC to claim Crown land is carried out in an accordance with the strategic direction of the NSWALC Council.
Leading a small team, the Manager Land & Property will:
- Review land claims refused by the Crown Lands Minister following consultation where appropriate, and making recommendations about which land claim determinations should be appealed;
- Assist LALCs in assessing requests in relation to proposed land management activities, including the granting of an interest over land that is subject to claim and or withdrawal of claims;
- Maintain a register of all land held by NSWALC and LALCs.
To be successful in this role, the Manager, Land & Property will need to have:
- High level management skills with experience in property management, including a demonstrated ability to analyse detailed contracts and documents, identify risks associated with property development/commercial activities and how those risks can best be managed and mitigated;
- Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple complex projects and budgets;
- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with a broad range of organisations at a senior level including government departments, Aboriginal community organisations, and industry sector groups;
- Experience in the development and implementation of management plans and/or business unit plans and the achievement of targets and key performance indicators contained therein;
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field or extensive equivalent experience
