Henan holds a very important position in the formation and development of Chinese culture. Historical records and years of archaeological study have revealed Henan's ancestors established human civilization more than 8,000 years ago and were the first to create human civilization in China. Henan is located in the Central Plains on the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River and has been the political, economic and cultural center of China for some 3,000 years, deemed the "cradle of Chinese civilization." Considered the "Museum of Chinese history and culture," more than 200 emperors spanning 20 dynasties have reigned over the province; where four of the Eight Great Ancient Capitals of China can be found in this region, Luoyang, Anyang, Kaifeng and Zhengzhou.

Called the "Cultural and Natural Museum of China," picturesque and culture-rich scenery adorn the landscape of Henan along with being home to 1.3 million pieces of relics housed in the national museum. Songshan Mountain, one of the "Five Sacred Mountains of China," is the birthplace of Zen Buddhism in China and home to many magnificent temples, the most notable, Shaolin Temple, the origin of all Chinese martial arts.

Henan boasts both cultural heritage and unique natural scenery for tourism. The Yellow River stretches over 700 km in Henan. Annual festivals celebrate and highlight Henan. The Zhengzhou Interternational Shaolin Kungfu Festival introduces the world to the mesmerizing artistry of martial arts. Kaifeng, called the "city of chrysanthemum" puts on a grand display of the flowers every fall. Luoyang is vibrant with colorful delicate peonies exhibited at their annual Peony Festival. Serviced by the three major airports of Luoyang, Zhengzhou and Nanyang, Henan Province is readily accessible by all major cities in China. The major railways of Jingguang, Jingjiu, Jiaozhi, Xinhe and Xintai converge at the hubs of Zhengzhou, Luoyang, Shangqui, Jiaozuo and Xinxiang.
