Driver flees after ploughing through two cyclists in North Perth

A Perth cyclist left injured on the road after a hit-and-run incident on Tuesday morning said he and his friend had "no time to react" before a car turned into their path, "t-boned" them and then fled.

Jason Rhine and Cameron Mitchell were approaching Fitzgerald Street in North Perth around 5.30am when they were struck by a vehicle which caused both to fly over its bonnet.

Two cyclists injured after hit and run

Two Perth cyclists say they had no time to react after a car pulled out in front of them during a ride on Tuesday morning.

The men were thrown over the top of the car, with Mr Mitchell requiring surgery for a broken collar bone, while Mr Rhine escaped with minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, leaving the men, aged 27 and 32, lying on the road.

Mr Rhine, an accomplished triathlete, told Radio 6PR he was lucky to have walked away from the accident.

"We were just casually going along on the downhill, reaching speeds probably around 40 to 45 kilometres plus an hour and basically from the side street this car just pulled out to turn left onto Fitzgerald Street right in front of us, they either didn't see us or just didn't check," he said.

"We had no time to react, so we both t-boned the car, I hit the bonnet of the car and... basically did a somersault over the top... and landed on my shoulder and my head.

"The investment in my helmet was worth every cent I can tell you, it absolutely saved my life.

"Cam... also flew over the car, unlucky for him he landed pretty severely on his collarbone and broke it in three places."

A police spokeswoman confirmed police had since located the vehicle involved in the incident, but not the driver.

"Inquiries are continuing," she said.

Social media users have labelled the act "sickening" and "horrible".
