This rarely seen movie is scripted (by Christianna Brand and Francis Crowdy) from the book ‘Airing in a Closed Carriage' by Joseph Shearing, one of several pseudonyms of Mrs Gabrielle Margaret Vere Long who wrote some 150 novels in the early part of the twentieth century. This one she based on the famous case of Florence Maybrick who was sentenced to death for the murder of her husband by arsenic in 1889, although it is now generally regarded as a gross miscarriage of justice and she was reprieved at the last moment, ending with a fifteen-year jail sentence (read the definitive book "Did She Kill Him?" by Kate Colquhoun). All the major facts of the case are included with only minimal alterations although somewhat simplified, and the ending has been changed for dramatic effect and a suitable ‘wrap' for the story. Eric Portman (in the suggested role of ‘Michael Maybrick') gives one of his marvellously debonaire-come-sinister performances with that wonderfully clipped voice, and Sally Gray is beautiful enough in the ‘Florence' role, though I feel Patrick Holt comes across as too histrionic. Dermot Walsh is fair in the part of the supposed lover Jerome Thorn (based on the ‘Brierley' character of the original case) and there are several small roles which are cast by the likes of Vida Hope, Helen Cherry, Janet Kay, James Hayter, Andrew Cruickshank, Miles Malleson, with Denis O'Dea gives a very understated interpretation of the prosecuting counsel - all well-known names to ‘fans' of British movies of this period... The Film was directed by Brian Desmond Hurst and two of his other films, "Trottie True" and "Hungry Hill", are on this channel. Christianna Brand had a very interesting life, having had several occupations, as a dancer, as a model, a shop assistant and a governess, before her writing, under several pseudonyms, took off. ‘Inspector Cockrill' featured in a series of crime novels of which "Green For Danger" became the most popular - the film of which, with Alister Sim as a wonderful ‘Cockrill', is on this channel. Her series of children's books, "Nurse Matilda", led to the film of "Nanny McPhee". Born on 17 December 1907, she died on 11 March 1988...

This Gainsborough movie is an example of what was once called a compendium, or portmanteau, film - ie: several stories and characters linked by a single factor - in this case, a Marriage Bureau run by two dotty old spinsters (Jean Cadell and Mary Jerrold). For a "B" movie of this nature it has a pretty good cast of distinguished actors of the time: David Tomlinson is given the job by his editor of writing up a warm-hearted summary of the bureau for his weekend family paper, and this links all the stories which include Andrew (Derek Bond) who wants to marry for money; Pat, the lovely Susan Shaw who simply wants to ‘get away from it all' - the all being her tedious job as a night-club hostess; Martin (Patrick Holt), who doesn't even understand women; Doris (Carol Marsh, so excellent in "Brighton Rock") who lives in a kind of dream; French Marcelle (Zena Marshall) who is on the run from a violent boy-friend and is in desperate need of a British passport; the roguish Sir Gordon (Guy Middleton), who believes women just get in the way of fun - with other women, of course; his ‘gentleman's gentleman' (Denis O'Dea) who wants to retire to farming and find a like-minded companion; and middle-aged school teacher (Nora Swinburne) who simply wants to get away from looking educating other people's children. It goes without saying that all these characters get mixed up with each other and get into various varieties of romantic difficulties, which, needless to say, all get smoothed out by the end of the movie. It's quite a jolly affair produced by Betty E Box and directed by future James Bond director, Terence Fisher, with more music by Clifton Parker and some well-known names in supporting parts including Brenda Bruce, Beatrice Varley, Joan Hickson, Cyril Chamberlain and even a minuscule role by Anthony Steel (his fifth movie! appearance)

In boxing, the ring of the bell marks the start of the round, but not necessarily the beginning of the fight. For "Patrick 'Lights' Leary," the protagonist in the upcoming FX drama Lights Out, the fight before him marks a chance for redemption after a long road. And for Holt McCallany, the actor who plays "Lights" Leary, the role provides his moment to shine after 20 years in the ring as a professional actor.
Holt was born into a family of New York City actors; his mother was an actress and singer, and his father a Tony Award®-winning actor and producer. He began school in Dublin, Ireland at the age of five before his parents moved back to NY.
At 14-years-old, his long road began when he ran away from home and took a Greyhound bus to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. Destined to be a star but not a runaway, Holt's parents tracked him down and sent him back to Ireland to boarding school. Following high school, he went to France to continue his education. He learned French at the Sorbonne, studied art history at the Paris American Academy, and theater at L'Ecole Marceau and L'Ecole Jacques Lecoq. He spent a summer studying Shakespeare in Oxford. After Europe, he moved back to New York permanently to begin his acting career.
Holt has worked with some of Hollywood's top directors including David Fincher, David O. Russell, Lawrence Kasdan, David Twohy, Brian De Palma, and William Friedkin, among others. He most recently appeared in the Warner Bros. feature The Losers. Other films include Men of Honor, Three Kings, Fight Club, Below, Vantage Point and many others. Among his television appearances are such notable shows as CSI Miami, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Burn Notice, Criminal Minds and Heroes.
An accomplished writer and producer, McCallany just co-wrote a film, Mother Justice based on the extraordinary life of Doreen Giuliano, a Brooklyn mother who risked her life to free her son from prison. The film will air on Lifetime Network.
He currently resides in New York City and Los Angeles and enjoys reading history. He has read every biography from Bob Denard to Swifty Lazar.

Patrick Holt
Patrick Holt (31 January 1912 – 12 October 1993) was an English film and television actor.
Biography
Patrick Holt's real name was Patrick G. Parsons. Some of his childhood was spent in India with his uncle. Patrick was sent to Christ's Hospital, a famous charity school in Britain. He formed a close friendship with a boy in the same boarding house, the future film star Michael Wilding. There were those who thought Holt the better actor. He started his career in repertory theatres, and in 1939, landed a leading part on the London stage, but the Second World War broke out, and he joined the army. He saw service in Burma, Singapore and India, often on secret missions behind enemy lines, and rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel. After the war, he joined the J. Arthur Rank charm school and steadily established himself as a leading actor in 1950s "second features." Quinlan has called him "the Dennis Price of the B film."
Holt maintained his status as a leading man in second features into the early 1960s, although he sometimes also played supporting roles or cameos. As late as 1962, he appeared in three films, all of which had him in a leading role. However, he was one of many leading men & women of the 1950s (the others including Kenneth More, Richard Todd, John Gregson, Michael Craig, Sylvia Syms and Muriel Pavlow) who struggled to maintain their status as leads beyond the early 1960s. From 1963 onwards, Holt never played another leading film role.

This Gainsborough movie is an example of what was once called a compendium, or portmanteau, film - ie: several stories and characters linked by a single factor - in this case, a Marriage Bureau run by two dotty old spinsters (Jean Cadell and Mary Jerrold). For a "B" movie of this nature it has a pretty good cast of distinguished actors of the time: David Tomlinson is given the job by his editor of writing up a warm-hearted summary of the bureau for his weekend family paper, and this links all the stories which include Andrew (Derek Bond) who wants to marry for money; Pat, the lovely Susan Shaw who simply wants to ‘get away from it all' - the all being her tedious job as a night-club hostess; Martin (Patrick Holt), who doesn't even understand women; Doris (Carol Marsh, so excellent in "Brighton Rock") who lives in a kind of dream; French Marcelle (Zena Marshall) who is on the run from a violent boy-friend and is in desperate need of a British passport; the roguish Sir Gordon (Guy Middleton), who believes women just get in the way of fun - with other women, of course; his ‘gentleman's gentleman' (Denis O'Dea) who wants to retire to farming and find a like-minded companion; and middle-aged school teacher (Nora Swinburne) who simply wants to get away from looking educating other people's children. It goes without saying that all these characters get mixed up with each other and get into various varieties of romantic difficulties, which, needless to say, all get smoothed out by the end of the movie. It's quite a jolly affair produced by Betty E Box and directed by future James Bond director, Terence Fisher, with more music by Clifton Parker and some well-known names in supporting parts including Brenda Bruce, Beatrice Varley, Joan Hickson, Cyril Chamberlain and even a minuscule role by Anthony Steel (his fifth movie! appearance)

In boxing, the ring of the bell marks the start of the round, but not necessarily the beginning of the fight. For "Patrick 'Lights' Leary," the protagonist in the upcoming FX drama Lights Out, the fight before him marks a chance for redemption after a long road. And for Holt McCallany, the actor who plays "Lights" Leary, the role provides his moment to shine after 20 years in the ring as a professional actor.
Holt was born into a family of New York City actors; his mother was an actress and singer, and his father a Tony Award®-winning actor and producer. He began school in Dublin, Ireland at the age of five before his parents moved back to NY.
At 14-years-old, his long road began when he ran away from home and took a Greyhound bus to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. Destined to be a star but not a runaway, Holt's parents tracked him down and sent him back to Ireland to boarding school. Following high school, he went to France to continue his education. He learned French at the Sorbonne, studied art history at the Paris American Academy, and theater at L'Ecole Marceau and L'Ecole Jacques Lecoq. He spent a summer studying Shakespeare in Oxford. After Europe, he moved back to New York permanently to begin his acting career.
Holt has worked with some of Hollywood's top directors including David Fincher, David O. Russell, Lawrence Kasdan, David Twohy, Brian De Palma, and William Friedkin, among others. He most recently appeared in the Warner Bros. feature The Losers. Other films include Men of Honor, Three Kings, Fight Club, Below, Vantage Point and many others. Among his television appearances are such notable shows as CSI Miami, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Burn Notice, Criminal Minds and Heroes.
An accomplished writer and producer, McCallany just co-wrote a film, Mother Justice based on the extraordinary life of Doreen Giuliano, a Brooklyn mother who risked her life to free her son from prison. The film will air on Lifetime Network.
He currently resides in New York City and Los Angeles and enjoys reading history. He has read every biography from Bob Denard to Swifty Lazar.

Patricia Roc & Bill Owen - When the Bough Breaks - 1947
A rarely seen movie from 1947 giving Patricia Roc (a favourite British 40s movie star) possibly the best role of her career as a working-class woman married to a bigamist who ‘gives' her baby to middle-class Rosamund John and her husband (Patrick Holt) to bring up as their own, but years later wants to take him back. Pat Roc makes a fare stab at what was termed in those days a ‘common' accent - though it fluctuates wildly! - and Brenda Bruce delivers a sharp character-study as her friend, but the whole film lightens up after half an hour or so with the appearance of Bill Owens' delightful face at a holiday camp dance, presumably a Butlin's, which gives a nice impression of what camps must have been like in the late 1940s (although mainly studio sets and back projection!). All the major facts of the case are included with only minimal alterations although somewhat simplified, and the ending has been changed for dramatic effect and a suitable ‘wrap' for the story. Eric Portman (in the suggested role of ‘Michael Maybrick') gives one of his marvellously debonaire-come-sinister performances with that wonderfully clipped voice, and Sally Gray is beautiful enough in the ‘Florence' role, though I feel Patrick Holt comes across as too histrionic. Dermot Walsh is fair in the part of the supposed lover Jerome Thorn (based on the ‘Brierley' character of the original case) and there are several small roles which are cast by the likes of Vida Hope, Helen Cherry, Janet Kay, James Hayter, Andrew Cruickshank, Miles Malleson, with Denis O'Dea gives a very understated interpretation of the prosecuting counsel - all well-known names to ‘fans' of British movies of this period... The Film was directed by Brian Desmond Hurst and two of his other films, "Trottie True" and "Hungry Hill", are on this channel. Christianna Brand had a very interesting life, having had several occupations, as a dancer, as a model, a shop assistant and a governess, before her writing, under several pseudonyms, took off. ‘Inspector Cockrill' featured in a series of crime novels of which "Green For Danger" became the most popular - the film of which, with Alister Sim as a wonderful ‘Cockrill', is on this channel. Her series of children's books, "Nurse Matilda", led to the film of "Nanny McPhee". Born on 17 December 1907, she died on 11 March 1988...

This Gainsborough movie is an example of what was once called a compendium, or portmanteau, film - ie: several stories and characters linked by a single factor - in this case, a Marriage Bureau run by two dotty old spinsters (Jean Cadell and Mary Jerrold). For a "B" movie of this nature it has a pretty good cast of distinguished actors of the time: David Tomlinson is given the job by his editor of writing up a warm-hearted summary of the bureau for his weekend family paper, and this links all the stories which include Andrew (Derek Bond) who wants to marry for money; Pat, the lovely Susan Shaw who simply wants to ‘get away from it all' - the all being her tedious job as a night-club hostess; Martin (Patrick Holt), who doesn't even understand women; Doris (Carol Marsh, so excellent in "Brighton Rock") who lives in a kind of dream; French Marcelle (Zena Marshall) who is on the run from a violent boy-friend and is in desperate need of a British passport; the roguish Sir Gordon (Guy Middleton), who believes women just get in the way of fun - with other women, of course; his ‘gentleman's gentleman' (Denis O'Dea) who wants to retire to farming and find a like-minded companion; and middle-aged school teacher (Nora Swinburne) who simply wants to get away from looking educating other people's children. It goes without saying that all these characters get mixed up with each other and get into various varieties of romantic difficulties, which, needless to say, all get smoothed out by the end of the movie. It's quite a jolly affair produced by Betty E Box and directed by future James Bond director, Terence Fisher, with more music by Clifton Parker and some well-known names in supporting parts including Brenda Bruce, Beatrice Varley, Joan Hickson, Cyril Chamberlain and even a minuscule role by Anthony Steel (his fifth movie! appearance)

A rarely seen movie from 1947 giving Patricia Roc (a favourite British 40s movie star) possibly the best role of her career as a working-class woman married to a bigamist who ‘gives' her baby to middle-class Rosamund John and her husband (Patrick Holt) to bring up as their own, but years later wants to take him back. Pat Roc makes a fare stab at what was termed in those days a ‘common' accent - though it fluctuates wildly! - and Brenda Bruce delivers a sharp character-study as her friend, but the whole film lightens up after half an hour or so with the appearance of Bill Owens' delightful face at a holiday camp dance, presumably a Butlin's, which gives a nice impression of what camps must have been like in the late 1940s (although mainly studio sets and back projection!). Having been a band vocalist before getting into films, William Owen Rowbotham reverted to his second name for this film, and ever after, and here he gives a particularly sensitive and likeable performance as the man Pat Roc eventually marries without realising certain problems that would arise on account of her donated child, who speaks with an extraordinarily plummy accent when he finally appears! Nice cameos from Edie Martin as a perfume-shop buyer, and Jane Hylton as John's maid. The film is directed with a sure hand by Lawrence Huntingdon who also directed "Wanted for Murder", "The Upturned Glass", "The Franchise Affair" and others... Music for this film was composed by Clifton Parker - a name not known to me although he wrote the scores for over eighty films and the list includes music for "Blanche Fury", "My Brother's Keeper", "The Blue Lagoon", "Treasure Island" and "The Wooden Horse".

Synopsis:
An unique road trip. An unprecedented, genuine portrait of Haiti.
Filmed in Cap-Haitien, Hinche, Port-au-Prince and Petit Goave in 2008, two years before the devastating earthquake -- world food prices were dramatically increasing and an UN peacekeeping mission was going on. The film is a record of pre-earthquake Haiti.
In Haiti follows the two filmmakers and friends, Florian Wiesner and Fabian Bohnet-Waldraff on a month-long road trip through the island. During their journey they get immersed in the different and complex aspects of haitian reality.
Instead of focusing on the usual poverty/violence topics seen in the mass media, the filmmakers present a colorful and deeper picture of the country and its people. The movie is also about road stories, improbabilities, impressions and anecdotes.
Some of the issues explored by this documentary are: The school and health system, the causes of deforestation and food insecurity. An insight is also given on the history of the country and the voodoo religion.

Lyssa Royal Holt has been a seminar leader, channel, and author since 1985. She is the co-director, with her husband Ronald Holt, of Seed of Life Institute LLC and the SOLi School, an organization whose primary purpose is to assist individuals to understand the nature of consciousness and to put this understanding into practice in daily life – providing a road map to the process of realizing the true Awareness beyond the human identity.
Lyssa began her training and teaching in the mid-1980s. She was first formally trained as a trance channel by a well known and respected channel in Los Angeles. The approach to her training was psychological in nature, because doctoral candidates at UCLA were studying the process of channeling as it relates to personality integration and development, and her teacher was part of the research program. Because of this approach and her B.A. in psychology, Lyssa learned channeling from the point-of-view that it could be a tool for spiritual evolution as channels learn to work with their egos so that it would not interfere in the channeling process. This profound method of learning to channel influences the way she teaches the skill today – as a tool for personal and spiritual evolution.
While Lyssa still trance channels today, she also teaches in a consciously-connected state in which her higher awareness communicates through her “human self” as she teaches – a skill that has been honed for more than 25 years.

This Gainsborough movie is an example of what was once called a compendium, or portmanteau, film - ie: several stories and characters linked by a single factor - in this case, a Marriage Bureau run by two dotty old spinsters (Jean Cadell and Mary Jerrold). For a "B" movie of this nature it has a pretty good cast of distinguished actors of the time: David Tomlinson is given the job by his editor of writing up a warm-hearted summary of the bureau for his weekend family paper, and this links all the stories which include Andrew (Derek Bond) who wants to marry for money; Pat, the lovely Susan Shaw who simply wants to ‘get away from it all' - the all being her tedious job as a night-club hostess; Martin (Patrick Holt), who doesn't even understand women; Doris (Carol Marsh, so excellent in "Brig...

This one she based on the famous case of Florence Maybrick who was sentenced to death for the murder of her husband by arsenic in 1889, although it is now generally regarded as a gross miscarriage of justice and she was reprieved at the last moment, ending with a fifteen-year jail sentence (read the definitive book "Did She Kill Him?" by Kate Colquhoun). All the major facts of the case are included with only minimal alterations although somewhat simplified, and the ending has been changed for dramatic effect and a suitable ‘wrap' for the story. Eric Portman (in the suggested role of ‘Michael Maybrick') gives one of his marvellously debonaire-come-sinister performances with that wonderfully clipped voice, and Sally Gray is beautiful enough in the ‘Florence' role, though I feel Patrick Holt comes across as too histrionic. Dermot Walsh is fair in the part of the supposed lover Jerome Thorn (based on the ‘Brierley' character of the original case) and there are several small roles which are cast by the likes of Vida Hope, Helen Cherry, Janet Kay, James Hayter, Andrew Cruickshank, Miles Malleson, with Denis O'Dea gives a very understated interpretation of the prosecuting counsel - all well-known names to ‘fans' of British movies of this period... The Film was directed by Brian Desmond Hurst and two of his other films, "Trottie True" and "Hungry Hill", are on this channel. Christianna Brand had a very interesting life, having had several occupations, as a dancer, as a model, a shop assistant and a governess, before her writing, under several pseudonyms, took off. ‘Inspector Cockrill' featured in a series of crime novels of which "Green For Danger" became the most popular - the film of which, with Alister Sim as a wonderful ‘Cockrill', is on this channel. Her series of children's books, "Nurse Matilda", led to the film of "Nanny McPhee". Born on 17 December 1907, she died on 11 March 1988...

For a "B" movie of this nature it has a pretty good cast of distinguished actors of the time: David Tomlinson is given the job by his editor of writing up a warm-hearted summary of the bureau for his weekend family paper, and this links all the stories which include Andrew (Derek Bond) who wants to marry for money; Pat, the lovely Susan Shaw who simply wants to ‘get away from it all' - the all being her tedious job as a night-club hostess; Martin (Patrick Holt), who doesn't even understand women; Doris (Carol Marsh, so excellent in "Brighton Rock") who lives in a kind of dream; French Marcelle (Zena Marshall) who is on the run from a violent boy-friend and is in desperate need of a British passport; the roguish Sir Gordon (Guy Middleton), who believes women just get in the way of fun - with other women, of course; his ‘gentleman's gentleman' (Denis O'Dea) who wants to retire to farming and find a like-minded companion; and middle-aged school teacher (Nora Swinburne) who simply wants to get away from looking educating other people's children. It goes without saying that all these characters get mixed up with each other and get into various varieties of romantic difficulties, which, needless to say, all get smoothed out by the end of the movie. It's quite a jolly affair produced by Betty E Box and directed by future James Bond director, Terence Fisher, with more music by Clifton Parker and some well-known names in supporting parts including Brenda Bruce, Beatrice Varley, Joan Hickson, Cyril Chamberlain and even a minuscule role by Anthony Steel (his fifth movie! appearance)

At 14-years-old, his long road began when he ran away from home and took a Greyhound bus to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. Destined to be a star but not a runaway, Holt's parents tracked him down and sent him back to Ireland to boarding school. Following high school, he went to France to continue his education. He learned French at the Sorbonne, studied art history at the Paris American Academy, and theater at L'Ecole Marceau and L'Ecole Jacques Lecoq. He spent a summer studying Shakespeare in Oxford. After Europe, he moved back to New York permanently to begin his acting career.
Holt has worked with some of Hollywood's top directors including David Fincher, David O. Russell, Lawrence Kasdan, David Twohy, Brian De Palma, and William Friedkin, among others. He most recently appeared in the Warner Bros. feature The Losers. Other films include Men of Honor, Three Kings, Fight Club, Below, Vantage Point and many others. Among his television appearances are such notable shows as CSI Miami, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Burn Notice, Criminal Minds and Heroes.
An accomplished writer and producer, McCallany just co-wrote a film, Mother Justice based on the extraordinary life of Doreen Giuliano, a Brooklyn mother who risked her life to free her son from prison. The film will air on Lifetime Network.
He currently resides in New York City and Los Angeles and enjoys reading history. He has read every biography from Bob Denard to Swifty Lazar.

He learned French at the Sorbonne, studied art history at the Paris American Academy, and theater at L'Ecole Marceau and L'Ecole Jacques Lecoq. He spent a summer studying Shakespeare in Oxford. After Europe, he moved back to New York permanently to begin his acting career.
Holt has worked with some of Hollywood's top directors including David Fincher, David O. Russell, Lawrence Kasdan, David Twohy, Brian De Palma, and William Friedkin, among others. He most recently appeared in the Warner Bros. feature The Losers. Other films include Men of Honor, Three Kings, Fight Club, Below, Vantage Point and many others. Among his television appearances are such notable shows as CSI Miami, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Burn Notice, Criminal Minds and Heroes.
An accomplished writer and producer, McCallany just co-wrote a film, Mother Justice based on the extraordinary life of Doreen Giuliano, a Brooklyn mother who risked her life to free her son from prison. The film will air on Lifetime Network.
He currently resides in New York City and Los Angeles and enjoys reading history. He has read every biography from Bob Denard to Swifty Lazar.

This rarely seen movie is scripted (by Christianna Brand and Francis Crowdy) from the book ‘Airing in a Closed Carriage' by Joseph Shearing, one of several pseudonyms of Mrs Gabrielle Margaret Vere Long who wrote some 150 novels in the early part of the twentieth century. This one she based on the famous case of Florence Maybrick who was sentenced to death for the murder of her husband by arsenic in 1889, although it is now generally regarded as a gross miscarriage of justice and she was reprieved at the last moment, ending with a fifteen-year jail sentence (read the definitive book "Did She Kill Him?" by Kate Colquhoun). This Gainsborough movie is an example of what was once called a compendium, or portmanteau, film - ie: several stories and characters linked by a single factor - in this case, a Marriage Bureau run by two dotty old spinsters (Jean Cadell and Mary Jerrold). A rarely seen movie from 1947 giving Patricia Roc (a favourite British 40s movie star) possibly the best role of her career as a working-class woman married to a bigamist who ‘gives' her baby to middle-class Rosamund John and her husband (Patrick Holt) to bring up as their own, but years later wants to take him back. Eric Portman (in the suggested role of ‘Michael Maybrick') gives one of his marvellously debonaire-come-sinister performances with that wonderfully clipped voice, and Sally Gray is beautiful enough in the ‘Florence' role, though I feel Patrick Holt comes across as too histrionic. Dermot Walsh is fair in the part of the supposed lover Jerome Thorn (based on the ‘Brierley' character of the original case) and there are several small roles which are cast by the likes of Vida Hope, Helen Cherry, Janet Kay, James Hayter, Andrew Cruickshank, Miles Malleson, with Denis O'Dea gives a very understated interpretation of the prosecuting counsel - all well-known names to ‘fans' of British movies of this period... The Film was directed by Brian Desmond Hurst and two of his other films, "Trottie True" and "Hungry Hill", are on this channel. Christianna Brand had a very interesting life, having had several occupations, as a dancer, as a model, a shop assistant and a governess, before her writing, under several pseudonyms, took off. ‘Inspector Cockrill' featured in a series of crime novels of which "Green For Danger" became the most popular - the film of which, with Alister Sim as a wonderful ‘Cockrill', is on this channel. Her series of children's books, "Nurse Matilda", led to the film of "Nanny McPhee". Born on 17 December 1907, she died on 11 March 1988...

Nice cameos from Edie Martin as a perfume-shop buyer, and Jane Hylton as John's maid. The film is directed with a sure hand by Lawrence Huntingdon who also directed "Wanted for Murder", "The Upturned Glass", "The Franchise Affair" and others... Music for this film was composed by Clifton Parker - a name not known to me although he wrote the scores for over eighty films and the list includes music for "Blanche Fury", "My Brother's Keeper", "The Blue Lagoon", "Treasure Island" and "The Wooden Horse".

Synopsis:
An unique road trip. An unprecedented, genuine portrait of Haiti.
Filmed in Cap-Haitien, Hinche, Port-au-Prince and Petit Goave in 2008, two years before the devastating earthquake -- world food prices were dramatically increasing and an UN peacekeeping mission was going on. The film is a record of pre-earthquake Haiti.
In Haiti follows the two filmmakers and friends, Florian Wiesner and Fabian Bohnet-Waldraff on a month-long road trip through the island. During their journey they get immersed in the different and complex aspects of haitian reality.
Instead of focusing on the usual poverty/violence topics seen in the mass media, the filmmakers present a colorful and deeper picture of the country and its people. The movie is also about road stories, improbabilities, impressions and anecdotes.
Some of the issues explored by this documentary are: The school and health system, the causes of deforestation and food insecurity. An insight is also given on the history of the country and the voodoo religion.
