Quokka given alcohol on Rottnest Island

A young Perth man is facing serious charges following video posted online which shows a quokka being given alcohol on Rottnest Island. Vision: Nine News Perth.

Rottnest Island Authority spokeswoman Suzanne Perry told Nine News Perth the act was "extremely stupid".

"This behaviour is very cruel to quokkas obviously, that quokka could be very sick right now and may potentially die as a result of their actions," she said.

The Snapchat videos were reportedly posted by the man's girlfriend who is an aspiring Perth model.

Authorities are investigating the incident.

It's not the first time a cruel act towards the island's famous marsupial has been caught on film.

Two French backpackers were fined $8000 in 2015 for lighting a quokka on fire using a deodorant can.

An 18-year-old Perth man was also found guilty, in a separate incident, of kicking a quokka two metres into the air, and fined $2,500.

Saturday's incident comes as the island prepares to welcome 1000 school leavers on Monday.
