Jetstar cancels Perth to Bali flight after crew member calls in sick, again

Jetstar has been slammed again for cancelling an international flight from Perth after one of its crew members called in sick.

The budget airline was forced in January 2016 to apologise to passengers for cancelling a Perth to Bali flight over the airport loud speaker at the same time the flight was scheduled to depart because a flight attendant had called in sick.

And now, nearly a year to the day later, on January 27, the same flight was cancelled again, with one passenger, Leanne, labelling the cancellation as "awful service".

"We had already checked-in and were through customs when I received the cancellation via text message and email," she said.

"We were all ushered back through to the airport entrance where our suitcases were waiting for us.

"We were so disappointed, we lost a whole Bali day for a trip we'd been planning for 18 months."

A Jetstar spokeswoman said a member of the crew due to fly to Bali had become unwell before departure and was unable to fly.

"We always have crew on standby, however as this flight was close to departure we were unable to replace the crew member in this short timeframe," she said.

"Cancellations of this nature are rare, and we apologise to our customers for the disruption before they continued their journey to Bali on alternative flights that afternoon and the following day."

Affected passengers received a full refund of their fare, or opted to travel on the next available service.

Last year, Jetstar cancelled an Airbus A320 flight from Perth to Bali at the last-minute, again claiming a crew member had become unwell shortly before the plane was due to take-off.

"When we asked why [the flight was cancelled], they said a staff member didn't turn up. We saw the pilots on the plane so assumed it was a flight attendant," a passenger said at the time.

Under Australian aviation regulations, the Airbus A320 requires four flight attendants be on board.
