Joseph Marshall (cricketer, born 1835)

Joseph William Marshall (5 December 1835 – 10 September 1915) was an English clergyman and a cricketer who played first-class cricket for Cambridge Town Club, Cambridge University and Cambridgeshire. He was born in Cambridge and died at Kidbrooke, Blackheath, London.

Marshall was educated at King Edward's School, Birmingham and at Trinity College, Cambridge. He played cricket for Cambridge University in all three seasons from 1855 to 1857 and appeared in the University Match against Oxford University each year. Details of his cricket are in some places sketchy, and it is not known if he was right- or left-handed; he played as an opening or middle-order batsman and also bowled, though he appears to have been a change bowler rather than a front-line bowler. In the University Match of 1857, he scored 48 in the Cambridge first innings, the highest score of his university cricket career, and he took two Oxford wickets; but Oxford won the match comfortably. Earlier in the same season, his score of 78 for the Cambridge Town Club against the university team was the highest of his first-class career; in this match, his younger brother John made his first-class debut. He did not play any further first-class cricket after leaving Cambridge University, though he continued to appear in minor matches, including some for Staffordshire, through to the 1880s.

Joseph Marshall (judge)

Joseph Marshall (ca 1755 – June 3, 1847) was an Irish-born farmer, judge and political figure in Nova Scotia. He represented Sydney County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1800 to 1811.

He was born in Glenkeen, the son of Joseph Marshall, and came to Georgia with his family at the age of 13. Marshall joined the loyalist forces during the American Revolution. In 1783, he came to Halifax with other former loyalist militia, later settling at Country Harbour in Nova Scotia. The following year, he was named a justice of the peace and served as a judge of the Inferior Court of Common Pleas from 1799 to 1841. He also served as a major in the local militia, later becoming lieutenant-colonel. His son John George succeeded him as a member of the provincial assembly. He died at home in Guysborough.

Joseph Marshall (sportsman)

Joseph Marshall (25 July 1862 – 15 January 1913) was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire in 1887. He also played football for Derby County.

Marshall was born in Mosborough, Yorkshire. He made his debut for Derbyshire in the 1887 season against Surrey and his only other first-class game was also against Surrey that season. After Derbyshire lost first-class status Marshall continued to play for the club with single games in the 1888 season and 1890 season. Marshall was a right-handed batsman and played 4 innings in 2 first-class matches with a top score of 31 and an average of 12.50.

Marshall died in Derby at the age of 50.

Joseph Marshall (traveller)

Joseph Marshall (years of birth and death are unknown) — British traveler of 2nd half of the 18th century. He is the author of "Travels in Holland, Flanders, Germany, of Denmark, Sweden, Lapland, Russia, Ukraine and Poland" (v. 1-3, 1772).

In 1770 he traveled the route Starodub — Chernigiv — Kyiv — Ochakov. In his work he described the natural wealth of Ukraine, stressed the high level of farming Ukrainian peasants and paid much attention to the possibility of increasing imports to England from the Ukraine hemp and flax.
