Far was a band from Sacramento, California.

History

Releases (1991–1999)

After a number of local releases including their first demo tape Sweat A River, Live No Lies (1991) and two independent albums Listening Game (1992) and Quick (1994) they signed to Epic/Immortal Records and released their first major record, Tin Cans With Strings To You (1996). The band's manager Troy Davis considers Tin Cans With Strings to be the first-ever screamo album. Far's next release was an EP titled Soon (1997), which was quickly followed up by their fourth and most popular album, Water & Solutions (1998). This record attracted a strong cult following in the late 1990s, due mostly to the single "Mother Mary" and the band touring with longtime friends the Deftones, and Incubus. The more melodic sound showcased on this album is increasingly cited as an influence on present-day alternative rock bands by the rock press, i.e.: Thursday, Biffy Clyro, Jimmy Eat World.

We Live

We Live is the fifth studio album by English doom metal band Electric Wizard. It is the first recorded with the band's second line-up. Due to the addition of second guitarist Liz Buckingham, the songs are more complex than their previous work.

Much was made of the acrimonious split between sole remaining member Jus Oborn and ex-members Mark Greening and Tim Bagshaw. Oborn has given few interviews since the original line-up split, but We Live is obviously something of a statement of intent for the band. They are named "The Electric Wizard" for the first time on the album cover, and "Electric Wizard II" in the booklet. The booklet also contains the statement: "My enemies, I fear not...but God protect me from my friends".

For this release, Electric Wizard continued to be inspired by horror movies. "Eko Eko Azarak" is the title of the first in a series of Japanese horror movies directed by Shimako Sato, while "Tutti I Colori Del Buio" and "Living Dead at Manchester Morgue" are named after a 1972 Sergio Martino movie and a 1974 Jorge Grau horror movie, respectively. Furthermore, the track "We Live" samples dialog from Don Sharp's 1973 horror film Psychomania.

At Night We Live is the fifth studio album by American alternative rock band Far released on May 25, 2010. A few different pre-order packages were available, 500 of which included a limited-edition colored double LP.

Critical reception

The album was released to a positive reception by critics. As of August 2010, the album has received a 'Universal Acclaim' score of 81 on Metacritic.

Alternative Press stated, "It truly does feel as if they've been holding this emotion back since the day they parted and now unleashing everything in an explosion of creative energy, delivering a magnificent record that while fresh and exciting, could only be the work of far." BBC Music were equally full of praise; "At Night We Live is the best and the most confident album of their two-part career. It is also, admittedly, more commercial-sounding, but there’s no shame in that if it’s done with integrity, dignity and passion."
