Mod Club Theatre

Mod Club Theatre (commonly called Mod Club) is a theatre in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Its address is 722 College Street, which is in Little Italy. The venue hosts live performance concerts and DJ nights, featuring genres like rock, pop, electronic music, and hip hop.

Mod Club Theatre has a capacity of about 600. Concert-goers can watch acts from the floor, the tables to the side of the room, or the second floor balcony. Additionally, two large video panels give audience members views of the performers on stage. The club's relatively small size contributes to the intimacy and clear sound quality of live shows. Some of the walls feature murals of images related to the 1960s mod subculture.

The Weeknd

Abęl Makkonen Tesfaye (born 16 February 1990), known professionally by his stage name The Weeknd (pronounced "the weekend"), is a Canadian singer, songwriter and record producer. In late 2010, Tesfaye anonymously uploaded several songs to YouTube under the name "The Weeknd". He released three nine-track mixtapes throughout 2011: House of Balloons, Thursday and Echoes of Silence, which were critically acclaimed. The following year, he released a compilation album Trilogy, thirty tracks consisting of remastered versions of the mixtape material and three additional songs. It was released under Republic Records and his own label XO.

In 2013, he released his debut studio album Kiss Land, which was supported by the singles "Kiss Land" and "Live For". His second album, Beauty Behind the Madness, which became his first number one album on the Billboard 200, included the top-five single "Earned It" and produced the number-one singles "The Hills" and "Can't Feel My Face". The songs have simultaneously held the top three spots on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart, making him the first artist in history to achieve this.

Basia Lyjak

Basia Lyjak is a first generation Polish-Canadian rock singer-songwriter from Toronto, Ontario.

Biography

Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Basia has said she was singing before she could speak. Music was always a passion for her throughout her childhood and teens, and she was always active in the art in whatever capacity she could be, in and out of school.

After graduating from secondary school, Basia auditioned for an all-girl group called "Aphrodisia," put together by Sky (Canadian band) founders, James Renald and Antoine Sicotte. She and three other girls were picked out of thousands of applicants, and went on to be briefly managed by the duo in Montreal, until management changed hands. The group were then flown to New York to record a 5-song demo, produced by The Berman Bros. of EuroSyndicate Productions. and it was around this time that Basia branched out on her own and began to pursue a career as a solo artist.

After leaving Aphrodisia, Basia began to apply what she had learned from the experience to her songwriting and began collaboration and pre-production on her self-titled first album. The 6-song EP was released in 2002.
