Queensland heatwave breaks as severe storms approach

After prolonged blistering heat, the weather gods have finally given south-east Queensland a reprieve as severe storms approach on Monday afternoon.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued an updated severe thunderstorm warning just before 3pm, with storms moving north-east towards the Brisbane CBD and Gold Coast.

Temperatures reach 47 degrees in parts of Queensland on Sunday as people flock to beaches and shopping centres to escape the heat. Nine News

They were forecast to affect areas in the Scenic Rim just before 4pm including Boonah, Aratula, Rosewood and Hatton Vale.

The two storm cells were expected to deliver damaging winds and heavy rainfall as well as possible flash flooding.
