Body found in search for man swept away in Esperance floodwaters

Police have located the body believed to be of a 68-year-old man swept away in floodwaters in Esperance.

The man drove his Suzuki Sierra onto a flooded road surface in Gibson, around 25 kilometres north of Esperance, at around 11.15pm on Saturday evening.

The man and his vehicle were then swept downriver, away from Bluman Road.

Two dogs that escaped from the rear tray of the vehicle were recovered, but authorities had yet to locate the vehicle.

The mans' body was found a short time before 10.15am. The exact location is yet to be verified. 

Flood warnings have been in place for the Goldfields regions over the weekend, with Esperance recording 19.2mm of rain on Saturday.

A report into the man's death will now be prepared for the Coroner.
