Hey guys! We're in Indonesia for a week. Yeah, so this is our second time back in Indonesia and this week we're going to be exploring Yogyakarta and Central Java and this video is going to show you some of the top attractions in the region. Can't wait to show you around. Let's go!
For our very first stop in Central Java, we headed to the biggest Buddhist monument in the world and the most popular attraction in the region: Borobudur.
So we are ready for another adventure. Tell us! Yeah, we're heading up to Mount Merapi and there is basically two different ways you can do it. You can hike up but we're going with a jeep. Yeah, it'll be fun. Hop on in.
After a few days in Jogja, we hopped on a train and headed towards Solo, also known as Surakarta. The ride was a little over an hour, and not only was it an inexpensive way to travel, but it was also incredibly scenic. We zoomed past villages and rice fields, and before we knew it, we had arrived.
So right now we're inside Pasar Triwindu which is an antiques market here in Solo and we are seeing some real gems.
So I went shopping for my Batik and I found one I really like. It cost about 30 US dollars and I can't wait to start wearing it. I think the first time I'll try it on is for dinner soon.
So we're starting off with coconut milk pancakes which are called Serabi.
Our next stop in Solo was the Mangkunegaran Palace, which dates back to 1757. Part of the royal family still lives here, so you can’t wander around.
Another way to experience Solo is by doing a tour on a pedibike, also known as a becak.
This trip was all about going in search of food, culture and a little bit of adventure. Over the course of the week we visited ancient temples, browsed through antique markets, ate our fair share of street food, and tackled a rather infamous volcano. In this video we are going to show you 20 things to do in Yogyakarta and Central Java, so let’s get started.

Central Java
Central Java (Indonesian: Jawa Tengah, abbreviated as Jateng) is a province of Indonesia. This province is located in the middle of Java. Its administrative capital is Semarang.
The province is 32,800.69 km2 in area, approximately a quarter of the total land area of Java. Its population was 33,753,023 at the 2015 Census; it the third most populated province in both Java and Indonesia after West Java and East Java.
Central Java is also a cultural concept that includes the Special Region and city of Yogyakarta as well as the Province of Central Java. However, administratively the city and its surrounding regencies have formed a separate special region (equivalent to a province) since Indonesian independence, administrated separately.
Geography
Located in the middle of the island of Java, the Central Java province is bordered by West Java and East Java provinces. A small portion of its south region is the Yogyakarta Special Region province, fully enclosed on the landward side by the Central Java province. To the north and the south, the Central Java province faces the Java Sea and the Indian Ocean. Central Java includes offshore islands such as Karimun Jawa Islands in the north, and Nusakambangan in the southwest. Yogyakarta is historically and culturally part of the Central Java region, although it is now a separate administrative entity.

Java (Indonesian: Jawa; Javanese: ꦗꦮ) is an island of Indonesia. With a population of over 141 million (the island itself) or 145 million (the administrative region) as of 2015 Census released in December 2015, Java is home to 56.7 percent of the Indonesian population, and is the most populous island on Earth. The Indonesian capital city, Jakarta, is located on western Java. Much of Indonesian history took place on Java. Hey guys! We're in Indonesia for a week. Yeah, so this is our second time back in Indonesia and this week we're going to be exploring Yogyakarta and Central Java and this video is going to show you some of the top attractions in the region. Can't wait to show you around. Let's go!
For our very first stop in Central Java, we headed to the biggest Buddhist monument in the world and the most popular attraction in the region: Borobudur.
So we are ready for another adventure. Tell us! Yeah, we're heading up to Mount Merapi and there is basically two different ways you can do it. You can hike up but we're going with a jeep. Yeah, it'll be fun. Hop on in.
After a few days in Jogja, we hopped on a train and headed towards Solo, also known as Surakarta. The ride was a little over an hour, and not only was it an inexpensive way to travel, but it was also incredibly scenic. We zoomed past villages and rice fields, and before we knew it, we had arrived.
So right now we're inside Pasar Triwindu which is an antiques market here in Solo and we are seeing some real gems.
So I went shopping for my Batik and I found one I really like. It cost about 30 US dollars and I can't wait to start wearing it. I think the first time I'll try it on is for dinner soon.
So we're starting off with coconut milk pancakes which are called Serabi.
Our next stop in Solo was the Mangkunegaran Palace, which dates back to 1757. Part of the royal family still lives here, so you can’t wander around.
Another way to experience Solo is by doing a tour on a pedibike, also known as a becak.
This trip was all about going in search of food, culture and a little bit of adventure. Over the course of the week we visited ancient temples, browsed through antique markets, ate our fair share of street food, and tackled a rather infamous volcano. In this video we are going to show you 20 things to do in Yogyakarta and Central Java, so let’s get started.

Indonesia has some of the largest remaining tracts of tropical forest anywhere in the world, and these support an incredibly diverse wildlife from Orangutans and other primates to critically endangered Javan Rhinoceros and Tigers, and an extraordinarily wide range of bird species. Forest areas recognised as UNESCO World Heritage Sites are Ujung Kulon National Park in West Java, and three huge parks in Sumatra, which together comprise the Tropical Rain Forest Heritage of Sumatra: Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park, Gunung Leuser National Park and Kerinci Seblat National Park.
Further east, Komodo Island is the home of the remarkable Komodo Dragon and a very diverse marine life. Close to the very eastern limit of Indonesia, the remote Lorentz National Park in Papua has a permanent glacier, and is the single largest national park anywhere in Southeast Asia.

Also in Central Java, the Dieng Plateau is home to the oldest extant temples in Indonesia, predating Borobudur by some 100 years, and just north of Solo, the early man archaeological excavation at Sangiran is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In such a vast archipelago it is hardly surprising that there are some very distinct and unique cultures, often contained in relatively small areas. Bali has a unique Hindu culture, descended from the great Javanese Majapahit Kingdom in the 13th and 14th centuries. The whole island is adorned by beautifully kept temples (pura), and there is a seemingly endless procession of colourful ceremonies. The Candi Siva Temple rises 47 metres into the sky and is the tallest in Prambanan and contains four inner chambers that face the four points of the compass. The main Hindu god, Shiva, is depicted in the southern chamber, whilst the sculpture of his reborn wife, Durga, is located within the temple’s northern chamber. Thankfully, due to the hard work and determination of many archaeologists, the symbolic meaning of the old Hindu god, Shiva, God of Destruction and Renewal, is well on its way to being fully realised.
