ESPN (originally an acronym for Entertainment and Sports Programming Network) is a U.S.-based global cable and satellite television channel owned by ESPN Inc., a joint venture between The Walt Disney Company (which operates the network) and the Hearst Corporation (which owns a 20% minority share).
ESPN broadcasts primarily from studio facilities located in Bristol, Connecticut. The network also operates offices in Miami, New York City, Seattle, Charlotte, and Los Angeles. John Skipper currently serves as president of ESPN, a position he has held since January 1, 2012. While ESPN is one of the most successful sports networks, there has been much criticism of ESPN, which includes accusations of biased coverage, conflict of interest, and controversies with individual broadcasters and analysts.
As of February 2015, ESPN is available to approximately 94,396,000 paid television households (81.1% of households with at least one television set) in the United States. In addition to the flagship channel and its seven related channels in the United States, ESPN broadcasts in more than 200 countries, operating regional channels in Australia, Brazil, Latin America and the United Kingdom, and owning a 20% interest in The Sports Network (TSN) as well as its five sister networks and NHL Network in Canada.
First Take may refer to:
First Take is an American morning sports talk program on ESPN2 and ESPN2HD. Two episodes air each weekday from Monday through Friday, with the live episode airing from 10 a.m. ET until noon, with a repeat episode usually following a live episode of His & Hers.
The show is broadcast from ESPN's headquarters in Bristol, Connecticut in Studio E. It also has "roadshow" broadcasts for events such as the weeks of the College Football Playoff, the Super Bowl and the NBA Finals from the cities where those events take place.
The entire show, without commercials, is available as an audio-only podcast the afternoon of the same day, following the broadcast of the recorded show.
Analysts and long-time sports reporters Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith (along with guests) are featured, providing roundtable and often adversarial daily debate—often known as "hot takes"—on current sports topics of interest to the United States audience.
SportsCenter is a daily sports news television program that serves as the flagship program of American cable and satellite television network ESPN. Originally broadcast only once per day, SportsCenter now has up to twelve airings each day; the program features highlights and updates, and reviews scores from the day's (or depending on the airtime, the previous day's) major sporting events, along with commentary, analysis previewing upcoming games, feature segments, and news stories from around the sports world.
Since it premiered upon the network's launch on September 7, 1979, the show has aired more than 50,000 unique episodes, more than any other program on American television; SportsCenter is broadcast from ESPN's studio facilities in Bristol, Connecticut and Los Angeles, California. In addition to airing simulcasts or network-exclusive editions on sister networks ESPN2 and ESPNews, the program also produces short in-game updates during sports events aired on ABC as well as an interstitial play countdown segment for fellow sister network Disney XD. ESPN is currently sponsoring SportsCenter and many other productions.
