Fashion labels get political at New York Fashion Week

For his first collection at the helm of the iconic American label Calvin Klein, Raf Simons blasted David Bowie's This is Not America to open and close his show (top right) on Friday morning. Next to make a clear political statement was the budding LRS Studio, whose Mexico-born designer declared 'f*** your wall' (left) on the back of a model's white underwear. Attendees of the Calvin Klein show were given 'unity' bandanas to wear, much like the white ones worn at the Tommy Hilfiger show by models including Joan Smalls, Bella Hadid, and Gigi Hadid (bottom far right) in California. Creatures of Comfort also had a model wear a sweatshirt bearing the slogan: 'We are all human beings' (bottom centre) on Thursday. These were some of the designers who chose their shows as an opportunity to voice their opinion as the fashion industry begins to follow Hollywood's suit and make a comment on the political climate in the United States.

Angela Merkel offers cash handouts for migrants to leave

Angela Merkel will offer cash handouts worth millions of pounds for migrants to leave Germany in an effort to silence criticism of her 'open-door' border policy. In a highly-embarrassing U-turn after 1.2million migrants flocked to the country, Mrs Merkel has now vowed to send many of them home. The German chancellor agreed a package of measures to speed up the deportation of an estimated 450,000 migrants who have been rejected asylum. The controversial plan includes a £76million scheme that will offer migrants cash incentives to leave Germany voluntarily. Pictured, bottom, is a family arriving in Munich in 2015 from Syria.

How Christie Brinkley looks like this at 63

If it is difficult to comprehend that Christie Brinkley - resplendent in a daring cut-out costume - is 63, it is harder still to believe it's been 38 years since she first graced the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine, and that the two women posing with her for the cover of this month's legendary Swimwear Issue are actually her children. Lulu tells of her affair with rock legend David Bowie

What a contradictory conundrum Lulu's (above right) life has been. One of the most interesting chapters was that fling with Bowie (above middle with Lulu) in the 70s. It was outlandish at the time. She was the slightly kooky pint-sized Scottish singer with the huge voice; he was, well, David Bowie. 'Has there ever been an odder couple?' is how she herself summed it up in her autobiography I Don't Want To Fight.

He also tells all about his seven year romance with Viscountess Virginia Royston (together inset) who he met in 1975 when Colin Firth brought her to the island.
