Far north Queensland pair become multi-millionaires after lotto win

Two far north Queensland punters have become multi-millionaires in the past three days, taking out a Powerball jackpot each.

A mystery entrant won $15 million in Thursday night's draw, purchasing the lucky ticket in Ayr, 90 kilometres south-east of Townsville.

The division-one winner is not registered to a Winners Circle card so the their identity is a mystery, so officials are encouraging those who bought a ticket from Tosh's Convenience Store to check their numbers.

"For anyone in Ayr who is yet to check their ticket, the winning numbers in last night's Powerball draw were 11, 23, 16, 33, 31 and 21," Powerball spokeswoman Elissa Lewis said. "The all-important Powerball number was 2."

The news comes after a Mareeba farmer, 60 kilometres south-west of Cairns, also became $15 million richer after Tuesday night's draw, with the anonymous winner saying he wanted to buy a new ute with his winnings.

The man had gone home for his lunch break when he found out the news - Golden Casket had been trying to ring him all morning but he had been out working in his paddock.

He said he would probably buy his family a house and maybe take them on a holiday but also buy his dream car.

It is also the second time Tosh's Convenience Store in Ayr has sold the winning ticket in 15 months after a local family collected $23 million in November 2015.
