Previously Maria was at the BBC in London where, for 10 years, she was Editor, World Current Affairs Radio. A 2010 Nieman Fellow at Harvard she is also the founder of Latitude News, a digital platform that introduced new ways of covering world affairs for American audiences.

Jennifer Weeks spent the past decade as a freelance journalist covering environment, science and health for magazines and web sites. She also has worked as a Congressional aide, lobbyist, and policy analyst in Washington, DC and Boston.

Jeff has two decades of experience working for news organizations in Antarctica, New Zealand, Vermont, Missouri, Maine and Massachusetts. He has covered many topics in science and technology, and beyond. He has a BA in history from Middlebury College and an MA in journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Lynne Anderson has been a medical and healthcare writer and editor for more than a dozen years. Lynne covered consumer health at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, where she also was a bureau chief and editor. She served as director of communications at Emory University's Winship Cancer Institute and also at the University of Kentucky's Kentucky Cancer Program. She has a master's degree in science, health and environmental reporting from Columbia University.

Nick is a recent graduate of the Creative Writing Program at Columbia's School of the Arts. He's worked as a freelance writer and researcher as well as in politics.

Before joining the Conversation, Emily worked as a newspaper reporter and editor, most recently at The Salem News and the Newton TAB. She also has experience in book publishing and as a magazine writer. Emily is a graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and Barnard College.

Joel ran social media strategy and launched vertical sites on Catholicism and technology for The Boston Globe. He has also worked in product management and editorial positions at The Christian Science Monitor, Lycos, and CNN International.

Tom began his tenure as Dean of the College of Communication in 2008, following a distinguished career in journalism. He worked a the Miami Herald for more than 30 years, as an investigative reporter, a political columnist, the editorial page editor, and finally, the executive editor, from 2001 to 2007.

Patterson is Bradlee Professor of Government and the Press at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. Before coming to Harvard in 1996, he taught for more than two decades at Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship. He is the author of several books including Informing the News, the need for knowledge-based journalism (2013).

Previously Caroline was editor of the Financial Mail in South Africa. Prior to that she worked for the Financial Times in London and Brussels in various roles over 17 years including as World Desk Editor and as a foreign correspondent covering European Union agriculture and social policy.

Candice worked as an investigative journalist at the Johannesburg-based civil society organisation Corruption Watch. She has also been a reporter in the newsrooms of several weekly and daily national newspapers, most recently the Sunday Independent and Johannesburg Star newspaper.

Natasha worked as news editor of City Press for three years before joining The Conversation Africa. She has freelanced for a range of publications, including Al Jazeera English, The Atlantic and The Big Issue. After obtaining her Bachelor of Journalism at Rhodes University in 2003, she worked for the Cape Times as a general reporter before joining the Cape Argus as news editor in 2009. She is a contributing editor to the Index on Censorship.

Thabo is a journalist and editor with 23 years’ experience in newspapers. He is the former editor of the Pretoria News, Sowetan, Sunday World and Business Times. His main areas of interest are human rights, education, politics, labour, transport and small business development. He is a past winner of the Sanlam Business Journalist of the Year Award (small business section). He was a 2008/2009 Nieman Fellow (Harvard University).

Sibonelo has been a journalist for about 20 years with a focus on business and economic areas. He has worked for national titles in South Africa such as the Business Day, Financial Mail and The New Age. Prior to joining The Conversation Africa, he worked for the National Empowerment Fund, a South African development finance institution.

Lindiwe is a student at the University of the Witwatersrand studying towards an Masters degree in Sociology. She previously completed a Masters in Development Studies at the University of Granada in Spain. Prior to that she completed her undergraduate degree in literature and theatre, and an honour degree in African Studies at the University of Cape Town. She has worked as a workshop facilitator, copy editor and project co-ordinator in civil society.

Thuletho has worked as news writer for the Mail & Guardian, the City Press and the student newspaper Wits Vuvuzela and freelanced for the Business Day and DRUM magazine in South Africa. She also worked as an intern for Citi FM 97.3 in Accra, Ghana. Prior to that she worked as an economist at Statistics South Africa and did a short stint at the National Treasury. She holds a BComm (Hons) in Economics and a BA Hons in Journalism and is currently completing a Masters of Arts in Journalism.

Andrew co-founded The Conversation. He previously edited The Age, The Observer (London), The Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday. He was Editor-in-Chief of The Big Issue (London), and he founded and edited the Sunday Herald in Scotland. He is the Asia-Pacific Director for Innovation Media.

Charis joined The Conversation as News Editor in 2012 after working as editor of Business Spectator, where she was also founding editor of Technology Spectator. She later served as editor of iTnews and has also run her own publishing business focused on the banking sector. Charis returned to The Conversation in 2013 as Deputy Business Editor.

Megan Clement has been with The Conversation since its launch in 2011. In Australia she worked on the environment, science and politics desks, winning a Human Rights Media Award for her work with Sharon Pickering on asylum seekers. She was Deputy Editor of The Conversation UK from its launch in 2013 until 2015. Megan is now working on the launch of The Conversation Global. She is based in Paris.

Madeleine graduated from Deakin University with a degree in media and communication. She returns to The Conversation after an internship in the Politics + Society section in 2014, and several stints in the Arts + Culture section during 2015.

Lucinda has 13 years’ experience reporting for leading Australian and international publications and websites, with a background in financial and world news. As a journalist for The Times in Sydney, Lucinda reported on breaking Australian and foreign news for a global audience. Prior to that, she spent 10 years covering the Australian financial services sector for a range of publications, working as a reporter, editor, video producer and presenter.

Josh joins The Conversation after stints in print, radio and online. His background in politics, philosophy and economics positions him to tackle issues from a variety of disciplines.

Based in Perth, Michael joined The Conversation after several years as a journalist with Fairfax, Sky News and The West Australian. Before moving to Australia from his native UK, he was a senior news and features writer for Nature.

Fron joined The Conversation in March 2011 from the Australian Medical Association, where she managed the Victorian media office. She previously worked for BBC Magazines in London and Melbourne consultancy Twenty20 Communications.

Anna is a specialist medical and science journalist, has edited online science news at the ABC and taught journalism at two universities. She has degrees in biochemistry and journalism, and her freelance work has appeared in outlets including the Sydney Morning Herald, New Scientist (UK) and the Financial Times newsletters. She is also an award winning blogger and travel writer.

Sasha joined The Conversation in 2015 after working for the Centralian Advocate - a newspaper in Alice Springs - where she was the health and education reporter. Prior to that, she completed a Masters in Journalism and International Relations and wrote regular freelance pieces for various Australian publications.

A graduate of Melbourne University's media and communications program, Michael returns to The Conversation after a successful internship on the Politics + Society desk in 2012 where he worked on the site's US elections coverage.

Michael has been a journalist for many years and worked for the BBC, ABC and more recently as a feature writer for The Courier-Mail, based in Brisbane. He has won several awards and commendations for his work including a highly commended in the Walkley Awards. Michael has also worked as a tutor and lecturer in journalism with Queensland University of Technology. He has a long interest in science and technology and holds a BSc (hons) in Mathematics and Physics and a MSc in Pure Mathematics.

Before joining The Conversation, Prodita worked for 7 years as a reporter for the Jakarta-based English daily The Jakarta Post. In 2013-2014, she was the Elizabeth Neuffer Fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology Center for International Studies. As Neuffer fellow, Prodita also wrote for The Boston Globe and The New York Times.

Emil has a background in documentary post-production and has credits on documentaries for the ABC, SBS, and BBC, amongst others. He has completed a Graduate Diploma of Journalism at La Trobe University, where he co-edited its online magazine, and after a brief stint at Business Spectator, he joins The Conversation as the Multimedia Editor.

Reema Rattan is currently on a six-month secondment to The Conversation Global, where her focus is on North and South-East Asia, and the Pacific. She joined The Conversation before the launch of the Australian site in 2011 and helped the company set up. She was Health + Medicine editor for four years before becoming the Series + Specials editor. Reema has worked in the research sector in Sydney and Melbourne, and was previously sub-editor at The Korea Times and the International Herald Tribune's local supplement in Seoul.

Fabrice Rousselot started his career as a foreign correspondent for French national newspaper, Libération. He was US bureau chief and UK bureau chief for the daily and spent many years in the field. He then lead Liberation's website before becoming the editor in chief of the newspaper. He left Libération in 2014, and embarked on an adventure with The Conversation, contributing to the launch of The Conversation France in 2015. Fabrice has collaborated with many international magazines and media outlets. He has published one novel and two non fiction books about Pakistan and French politics.

Clea Chakraverty joined The Conversation Global in September 2016. Previously, she worked as a freelance journalist in India for Indian and French media including the Indian Quarterly, Le Monde Diplomatique and Les Echos. Her interests cover education, social change, gender issues, religion, identity and globalisation. In 2013, she was awarded the French Lagardère prize for a project on Indian women. She studied anthropology at Paris Descartes with a focus on the Himalayas.

Stephen Khan is The Conversation’s Editor in the UK. He was a news editor at The Guardian and previously Deputy Foreign Editor of The Independent, Scotland Editor of The Observer and also worked for The Sunday Herald in Scotland.

Before joining The Conversation as Executive Editor, Matt Warren was a magazine editor and features executive on The Daily Mail.

Annabel joins The Conversation from a background in broadcast journalism. She was previously a radio news show producer at digital station Monocle 24 covering a wide array of international issues.

Holly joins The Conversation from a background in broadcast journalism and magazine publishing. She spent three years working as a reporter and editor on a number of business publications focusing on housing, the environment and health. Before this, she worked for the BBC as a journalist and researcher. She is based in York.

Laura worked for more than five years as a reporter and news editor for Research Fortnight, a specialist publication focusing on science, technology and higher education policy. She also worked as a reporter for Research Europe, covering French higher education policy and European policy in areas including space and innovation.

Andrew comes from a social science background, and studied and worked in the US. Before joining The Conversation, he worked on projects spanning behavioural economics, ethnography for public policy, and commercial qualitative research.

Miriam worked for four years as a reporter and news editor of Research Fortnight, a specialist publication focusing on science, technology and higher education policy. She has previously written for publications including New Scientist, Nature and Physics World. She also has a background as a PhD student in atomic physics, specialising in laboratory astrophysics.

Steven Vass joined The Conversation in February 2014 after nearly 10 years at the Sunday Herald, first as media correspondent and then as deputy business editor, where he wrote about most aspects of business but particularly energy, the economy and the financial crisis. He previously spent several years as a VSO volunteer in Zambia and several more as a media analyst in London.

Stephen covers science, technology and health for The Conversation. He previously spent five years as senior reporter and special projects editor at The Engineer, the world's oldest technology magazine and professional journal.

Emily graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2014 with an MA in Philosophy and English Literature. She joined The Conversation in 2015, after gaining experience with Press Data Ltd, the St James Ethics Centre and student newspaper The Journal. She is currently undertaking an MSc in Media and Communications at the LSE.

Bruce has spent his entire career working with Academic Leadership. He previously served as the Director Of Higher Education at NBC Learn, a division of NBC News and prior to that spent the bulk of his career at The Chronicles of Higher Education and Philanthropy where he was publisher from 2003 - 2009.

Joseph holds a BA from Stanford University and a JD from Columbia Law School.  He is a journalist with 40 years experience as an editor, reporter and writer. Trained as a lawyer, he is a former senior editor at Inc. magazine; investigative reporter for Frontline, the PBS documentary series; and a reporter and editorial writer for The Boston Globe. His awards include a Peabody and an Emmy.

Margaret Drain is an experienced television executive, producer and journalist and the former vice president of national programs for WGBH/Boston, supervising series including Frontline, Masterpiece, NOVA, and American Experience. She served as an executive producer in public broadcasting and a producer at CBS News, NY. Prior to that she worked at Bill Moyers’ Journal and ran the News and Law program at the Ford Foundation, with an emphasis on First Amendment issues. Her awards include the Peabodys, primetime Emmys, the duPont-Columbia awards, and the Writers’ Guild. Most recently she held the position of managing editor responsible for the launch of theconversation.com in the US. She is a graduate of Columbia University School of Journalism. She currently serves on several nonprofit boards.

Mary Croughan is Executive Director of the Research Grants Program Office (RGPO) at the University of California, Office of the President. She is responsible for leadership and oversight of seven grant programs run by the University of California for the University and the State of California. Dr. Croughan served full-time as a faculty member at UC San Francisco for over 20 years. She continues to serve as a Professor-in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco. She served as the Vice Chair and Chair of the University of California’s Academic Senate and on the UC Board of Regents. She has a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins University and a B.S. in Community Health from U.C. Davis. Dr. Croughan is the author or co-author of over 50 refereed journal publications and has given over one hundred conference presentations.
