As weather warnings come in thick and fast from WA emergency services, the state appears to have come to a standstill with a number of events planned for the weekend cancelled.
Flood warnings have been issued for the Perth metropolitan area, the South West and parts of the Great Southern districts, and the Department of Emergency Services has issued a major warning for 'rapid and powerful flooding' in the Avon Valley catchment.

A severe weather warning has also been issued for parts of the Great Southern, and stormy weather has been predicted for the Goldfields-Midlands area.
While some rural communities are celebrating the much-needed drenching, city-dwellers are mourning the loss of their 'summer' weekend.

The City of Perth has been forced to cancel its popular Twilight Hawkers Market, and the Perth International Arts Festival announced the cancellation of an event set to be held in the Chevron Festival Gardens on Friday night.

Perth Motorplex has also called off its World Series Sprintcars Round, and said the event would not be rescheduled. Meanwhile in stark contrast, on the other side of the country, Sydney Speedway has cancelled its own event, citing 'excessive heat'.
Regional speedways have also been effected, with Manjimup, Mount Barker, Kalgoorlie and Narrogin all calling off their evenings.
Across the state, regional cricket games look set to be rained off and Friday's Albany Pacing Cup has been abandoned due to the track flooding.
Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Neil Bennett said the rainfall was set to continue into Saturday morning over the Great Southern, South Coastal and Southeast Coastal Districts.
But it isn't all bad news- temperatures look set to rise to 30 degrees by Sunday.Â
