T.I. on Cutting Ties With Iggy Azalea: "After the Q-Tip Thing..."

For those who are unaware, the meteoric rise and subsequent fall of Iggy Azalea was due in part to rapper T.I. who signed her to his Grand Hustle Records label back in 2012. In an interview today with Hot 97's Ebro in the Morning, T.I. explains that he has professionally cut ties with her and the downfall came after the very public Twitter feud spurned by Azalea Banks' accusations that Iggy was appropriating black culture and ruining hip hop as a whole. The hip hop world felt a collective disrespect when Q-Tip got involved to school Iggy on the history of hip hop to which she fired back with: "I'm also not going to sit on twitter & play hip hop squares with strangers to somehow prove I deserve to be a fan of or influenced by hiphop." At the time T.I. came to her defense and attempted to patch up her verbal diarrhea but ultimately, when she came for Q-Tip, that was his breaking point. T.I. still however, continues to defend Iggy as he believes she is talented and will find her way through this rough period in her career which ultimately he thinks came up during a racially sensitive time. While word of them parting ways is news to us, it also seems to be news to Iggy Azalea as she claims this is the first she's heard of it. Via her Twitter: Here's the deal, I am still signed to @tip and do business with him. The first I've heard of us having an "issue" is via a radio interview. Personally, I don't think the radio is the place to talk about your personal issues with someone that part of your team... He seems to think there's nothing wrong with what he said, everybody else seems to disagree. I'm sure tip will publicly clarify what he meant when he feels he has the right platform to do and other than that, I'm chillin. At this point, T.I. has not released any further statements. Q-Tips (band)

Q-Tips were an English blue-eyed soul and new wave rock band, first formed in 1979 from the remnants of the 1970s rock outfit Streetband. Saddled with the novelty song "Toast", a B-side made successful from heavy airplay by Capital Radio's’s Kenny Everett, Streetband had failed to find any commercial success with their two albums. Drummer Chalky and guitarist Roger Kelly departed, leaving the remaining trio of Paul Young on vocals, Mick Pearl on bass guitar, and guitarist John Gifford.

Career

The ex-Streetbanders added new recruits Dave Lathwell on guitar and Baz Watts on drums. In addition, a four piece brass section was created by Steve Farr (baritone saxophone), Richard Blanchchard (tenor saxophone), Oscar Stuart Blandamer (alto saxophone) and Tony Hughes (trumpet) who all hailed from the North London and Hertfordshire area, while organist Ian Kewley lived in Essex. Q-Tips' name derived from a well-known brand of cotton swab.

Q-Tips' first rehearsals took place in November 1979. Their first gig was on 18 November 1979 at the Queens Arms Hotel in Harrow. This was followed by another at the Horn of Plenty in St Albans - a regular gig for Streetband during 1978 - and a total of sixteen in their first month of existence. Some personnel changes occurred during the first six months, with Blanchard's departure leaving a three-piece brass section, and Lathwell also leaving the band.

For those who are unaware, the meteoric rise and subsequent fall of Iggy Azalea was due in part to rapper T.I. who signed her to his Grand Hustle Records label back in 2012. In an interview today with Hot 97's Ebro in the Morning, T.I. explains that he has professionally cut ties with her and the downfall came after the very public Twitter feud spurned by Azalea Banks' accusations that Iggy was appropriating black culture and ruining hip hop as a whole. The hip hop world felt a collective disrespect when Q-Tip got involved to school Iggy on the history of hip hop to which she fired back with: "I'm also not going to sit on twitter & play hip hop squares with strangers to somehow prove I deserve to be a fan of or influenced by hiphop." At the time T.I. came to her defense and attempted to patch up her verbal diarrhea but ultimately, when she came for Q-Tip, that was his breaking point. T.I. still however, continues to defend Iggy as he believes she is talented and will find her way through this rough period in her career which ultimately he thinks came up during a racially sensitive time. While word of them parting ways is news to us, it also seems to be news to Iggy Azalea as she claims this is the first she's heard of it. Via her Twitter: Here's the deal, I am still signed to @tip and do business with him. The first I've heard of us having an "issue" is via a radio interview. Personally, I don't think the radio is the place to talk about your personal issues with someone that part of your team... He seems to think there's nothing wrong with what he said, everybody else seems to disagree. I'm sure tip will publicly clarify what he meant when he feels he has the right platform to do and other than that, I'm chillin. At this point, T.I. has not released any further statements. Well the Q-tip propeller is the closest thing you'll find to a prop with a tip-fin and in this video, I explain how it works and provide some pictures of one fitted to a full-sized autogyro.

T.I. on Cutting Ties With Iggy Azalea: "After the Q-Tip Thing..."

For those who are unaware, the meteoric rise and subsequent fall of Iggy Azalea was due in part to rapper T.I. who signed her to his Grand Hustle Records label back in 2012. In an interview today with Hot 97's Ebro in the Morning, T.I. explains that he has professionally cut ties with her and the downfall came after the very public Twitter feud spurned by Azalea Banks' accusations that Iggy was appropriating black culture and ruining hip hop as a whole. For those who are unaware, the meteoric rise and subsequent fall of Iggy Azalea was due in part to rapper T.I. who signed her to his Grand Hustle Records label back in 2012. In an interview today with Hot 97's Ebro in the Morning, T.I. explains that he has professionally cut ties with her and the downfall came after the very public Twitter feud spurned by Azalea Banks' accusations that Iggy was appropriating black culture and ruining hip hop as a whole. The hip hop world felt a collective disrespect when Q-Tip got involved to school Iggy on the history of hip hop to which she fired back with: "I'm also not going to sit on twitter & play hip hop squares with strangers to somehow prove I deserve to be a fan of or influenced by hiphop." At the time T.I. came to her defense and attempted to patch up her verbal diarrhea but ultimately, when she came for Q-Tip, that was his breaking point. T.I. still however, continues to defend Iggy as he believes she is talented and will find her way through this rough period in her career which ultimately he thinks came up during a racially sensitive time. While word of them parting ways is news to us, it also seems to be news to Iggy Azalea as she claims this is the first she's heard of it. Via her Twitter: Here's the deal, I am still signed to @tip and do business with him. The first I've heard of us having an "issue" is via a radio interview. Personally, I don't think the radio is the place to talk about your personal issues with someone that part of your team... He seems to think there's nothing wrong with what he said, everybody else seems to disagree. I'm sure tip will publicly clarify what he meant when he feels he has the right platform to do and other than that, I'm chillin. At this point, T.I. has not released any further statements. Q-Tip was born Jonathan Davis on April 10, 1970 in Queens, New York. His father was from Montserrat, a British territory in the eastern Caribbean. His mother is an African-American woman from Alabama. He attended Murry Bergtraum High School in Manhattan, New York. He converted to Islam in the mid-1990s, and changed his name to Kamaal Ibn John Fareed. The Q in Q-Tip's stage name stands for Queens, the borough of New York City from which he hails. On Martha Stewart he said his name Q-tip was his childhood nickname because he was skinny and had big hair. Q-Tip is a resident of Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey. He is the cousin of both Consequence and Dres from the hip hop group Black Sheep. Besides performing with his popular and successful jazz-influenced hip hop group, Q-Tip also did production work (under his production alias the Abstract or often—along with fellow Tribe member Ali Shaheed Muhammad and the late Slum Village member Jay Dee—as part of The Ummah) for artists such as Nas ("One Love", from Illmatic, 1994), Mobb Deep (co-producer on "Give up the Goods (Just Step)", "Temperature's Rising", and "Drink Away the Pain", from The Infamous, 1995) and R&B; singers Mariah Carey ("Honey", from Butterfly, 1997) and Whitney Houston ("Fine", from Whitney: The Greatest Hits). A Tribe Called Quest disbanded in 1998, after which Q-Tip pursued a solo career. His first solo singles, "Vivrant Thing" and "Breathe & Stop", were far more pop-oriented than anything he had done in A Tribe Called Quest, as was his solo debut LP for Arista Records, Amplified[citation needed]. His 2002 follow-up, Kamaal/The Abstract, although critically acclaimed and issued a catalog number, wasn't released at that time because the label believed that it did not have commercial appeal. The long awaited follow-up to Amplified was finally released on September 15, 2009 on Battery Records in 2009. A Tribe Called Quest reunited in 2006 and played a limited number of dates. The group was composed of its original lineup, including Q-Tip and occasional member Jarobi White. Early the next year, Q-Tip signed a new solo deal with Motown/Universal Records. As of late, Q-Tip has been very active, once again happily reunited with the full line-up of A Tribe Called Quest on the 2K7 NBA Bounce Tour, Rock the Bells Tour '08, and regaining control of his previously label-owned MySpace page. He has announced that he is negotiating for the ownership of the masters of earlier material from his previous labels and plans to release them independently. His latest album The Renaissance was released on November 4, 2008 through Universal Motown and was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2010 Grammys. T.I. on Cutting Ties With Iggy Azalea: "After the Q-Tip Thing..."

For those who are unaware, the meteoric rise and subsequent fall of Iggy Azalea was due in part to rapper T.I. who signed her to his Grand Hustle Records label back in 2012. In an interview today with Hot 97's Ebro in the Morning, T.I. explains that he has professionally cut ties with her and the downfall came after the very public Twitter feud spurned by Azalea Banks' accusations that Iggy was appropriating black culture and ruining hip hop as a whole. The hip hop world felt a collective disrespect when Q-Tip got involved to school Iggy on the history of hip hop to which she fired back with: "I'm also not going to sit on twitter & play hip hop squares with strangers to somehow prove I deserve to be a fan of or influenced by hiphop." At the time T.I. came to her defense and attempted to patch up her verbal diarrhea but ultimately, when she came for Q-Tip, that was his breaking point. T.I. still however, continues to defend Iggy as he believes she is talented and will find her way through this rough period in her career which ultimately he thinks came up during a racially sensitive time. While word of them parting ways is news to us, it also seems to be news to Iggy Azalea as she claims this is the first she's heard of it. Via her Twitter: Here's the deal, I am still signed to @tip and do business with him. The first I've heard of us having an "issue" is via a radio interview. Personally, I don't think the radio is the place to talk about your personal issues with someone that part of your team... He seems to think there's nothing wrong with what he said, everybody else seems to disagree. I'm sure tip will publicly clarify what he meant when he feels he has the right platform to do and other than that, I'm chillin. At this point, T.I. has not released any further statements.
