The Iron Age is the period generally occurring after the Bronze Age, marked by the prevalent use of iron. Iron production is known to have taken place in Anatolia at least as early as 1200 BC, with some contemporary archaeological evidence pointing to earlier dates.
The early period of the age is characterized by the widespread use of iron or steel. The adoption of these materials coincided with other changes in society, including differing agricultural practices, religious beliefs and artistic styles. The Iron Age as an archaeological term indicates the condition as to civilization and culture of a people using iron as the material for their cutting tools and weapons. The Iron Age is the third principal period of the three-age system created by Christian Thomsen (1788–1865) for classifying ancient societies and prehistoric stages of progress.
In historical archaeology, the ancient literature of the Iron Age includes the earliest texts preserved in manuscript tradition. Sanskrit and Chinese literature flourished in the Iron Age. Other texts include the Avestan Gathas, the Indian Vedas and the oldest parts of the Hebrew Bible. The principal feature that distinguishes the Iron Age from the preceding ages is the introduction of alphabetic characters, and the consequent development of written language which enabled literature and historic record.
Iron is a chemical element with symbol Fe (from Latin: ferrum) and atomic number 26. It is a metal in the first transition series. It is by mass the most common element on Earth, forming much of Earth's outer and inner core. It is the fourth most common element in the Earth's crust. Its abundance in rocky planets like Earth is due to its abundant production by fusion in high-mass stars, where the production of nickel-56 (which decays to the most common isotope of iron) is the last nuclear fusion reaction that is exothermic. Consequently, radioactive nickel is the last element to be produced before the violent collapse of a supernova scatters precursor radionuclide of iron into space.
Like other group 8 elements, iron exists in a wide range of oxidation states, −2 to +6, although +2 and +3 are the most common. Elemental iron occurs in meteoroids and other low oxygen environments, but is reactive to oxygen and water. Fresh iron surfaces appear lustrous silvery-gray, but oxidize in normal air to give hydrated iron oxides, commonly known as rust. Unlike many other metals which form passivating oxide layers, iron oxides occupy more volume than the metal and thus flake off, exposing fresh surfaces for corrosion.
Time Team is a British television series that originally aired on British Channel 4 from 1994 to 2014. Created by television producer Tim Taylor and presented by actor Tony Robinson, each episode featured a team of specialists carrying out an archaeological dig over a period of three days, with Robinson explaining the process in layman's terms. This team of specialists changed throughout the series' run, although it has consistently included professional archaeologists such as Mick Aston, Carenza Lewis, Francis Pryor and Phil Harding. The sites excavated over the show's run have ranged in date from the Palaeolithic to the Second World War.
In October 2012, Channel 4 announced that the final series would be broadcast in 2013. Series 20 was screened in January–March 2013. A further nine specials (essentially an irregularly scheduled 21st series) were screened between May 2013 and September 2014.
A team of archaeologists, usually led by either Mick Aston or Francis Pryor (the latter usually heading Bronze Age and Iron Age digs), and including field archaeologist Phil Harding, congregate at a site, usually in the United Kingdom. The site is frequently suggested by a member of the viewing public who knows of an unsolved archaeological mystery, or who owns property that has not been excavated and is potentially interesting. Time Team uncover as much as they can about the archaeology and history of the site in three days.
Scunthorpe United Football Club is an English association football club based in the town of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. It currently plays in Football League One, the third tier of the English football league system.
The team is nicknamed The Iron, and has played in a home strip of claret and blue for most of its history. It plays its home games at Glanford Park, having moved from the Old Show Ground in 1988.Grimsby Town, Hull City, Doncaster Rovers, Lincoln City and York City are its main rivals, although Doncaster are the only one of these clubs that currently plays in Scunthorpe's division. It is currently the only league club located in Lincolnshire.
The club was formed in 1899, turned professional in 1912 and joined the Football League in 1950. It achieved promotion to Division Two in 1958, where it stayed until 1964, but has spent most of its time as a Football League club in the basement tier. The club has had more success recently, however: it was promoted from Football League Two in 2005, and has spent three of the last five seasons in the Football League Championship. The Iron were relegated to Football League One in 2011, having finished bottom of the Championship.

Tony Robinson looks back at what the Time Team have learnt about the Iron Age. Far from being a place of wild savages, Iron Age Britain emerges as a wealthy and sophisticated society.
This is a short video about the Early Iron Age. A brief synopsis: Slovenia is situated in the southeastern part of Central Europe; where important trade and military routes have crossed long ago. In the Iron Age the so called "Amber route" crossed Slovenia, which merchants used to connect the Baltic coast and the Mediterranean. Trade routes to the north and west were already well travelled. The Roman Empire further strengthen roads to the east - Towards Greece, Scythia and Persia. Today, Novo mesto the capital of Dolenjska and one of the most important economic and cultural centers in Slovenia. Thousands of years of history unfolds in the "Archaeological image" in the Dolenjski muse in Novo mesto. With the introduction of metal starts the rise of people in Dolenjska who opened the door ...
Two large earthworks can be seen at Gear and Caer Vallack in Cornwall. Sited on top of adjacent hills, they were thought by Victorian archaeologists to be Iron-Age hillforts but little is understood about their origins. No copyright infringement has been intended by the uploading of this video; I am simply trying to share this amazingly interesting series.
"The romance of Celtic culture has long cast its spell, lost in enchanted mists and legends. Now, with our presenter Phil Bennett, Head of Archaeological Heritage of the stunningly beautiful Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, we seek to discover the reality of these fascinating people. Castell Henllys, set amongst the wild hills and forests of Wales, was one of their homesteads, between 600 BC and the first century AD. From settlement to abandonment, all aspects of Celtic life is examined, at war and in peace. Castell Henllys recreates our rich ancient past, providing a unique insight into a Celtic tribe living in a fort of the iron age, and offering an explanation as to what became of the people who once inhabited it."

An interesting and successful experiment
Bright skies make way for night.
Been light for so long, you've lost your sight.
Your future is darker than you ever feared.
A near era is dawning.
The last age is here.
All meaning is sucked from your name,
replaced by forces of demonic fame.
No matter what you're called, you're not prepared.
A new era is dawning.
