I'm a Celebrity: Tom Arnold calls Donald Trump a 'sexist, racist phoney'

The American comedian says he has known the President of the USA for 30 years, and he's a phoney.

Steve Price may be a long way from a studio but he still managed to pull together a special episode of Jungle Radio on I'm A Celebrity on Monday.

His special guest was Tom Arnold, who used his appearance to hoe into US President Donald Trump.

Asked by "talkback caller" Nazeem Hussain, of Elsternwick (by way of South Africa) if he had ever met Donald Trump, Arnold replied, "Met him? I've known him for 30 years.

"I know him very well," Arnold continued. "He's sexist, he's racist. I consider him a joke. I have friends who are real billionaires, and I've always considered him a phoney about that."

Arnold also shed some light on what it was like to live with fellow comedian Roseanne Barr, to whom he was married from 1990 to 1994.

When they got together, Barr was the star of America's biggest sitcom, Roseanne. Arnold, a stand-up comedian, had been hired as a writer on the show, and in its second season created a character, Arnie Thomas, for himself.

"We really decided to get married because, you know, 'Nobody likes either one of us; we should probably get married'," he said.

His former wife had multiple personality disorder and had "27 different personalities", he said.

"It was a complicated life, and only two of them liked me, and that's no joke. I'd come home and there'd be somebody who didn't like me."

Perhaps the biggest revelation of the night came from Lisa Curry. The former swimming champion claimed she had been paid a grand total of $2000 during her career in the pool.

The subject of what sportswomen are paid came up when Price opined that the just-launched Women's Football League was "a joke" and "a waste of money".

"Good luck to them, as an amateur pursuit it's great, but don't try and turn it into something it's not," Price said. "It'll never be pro"

He then attempted to deflect attention by suggesting the real issue was that administrators were paid so much more than players.

"The CEO of the AFL is paid $1.8 million plus bonuses a year. The top player gets 1 [$ million]," he said, pointing to Dane Swan, whose salary and sponsorship package hit that mark in his peak years.

"One million? Aw, talk to a swimmer," Curry replied. "We get nothing. I got $2000 my whole career. That's it. Everything else I earned myself."

Of the discrepancy between what male and female sportspeople were paid, she said succinctly, "it's bullshit".
