OHCHR - Pacific Regional Office

The OHCHR Regional Office for the Pacific was established in Suva, Fiji, in 2005. It covers 16 countries of the Pacific region, namely: Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands Countries (PICs): Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Republic of the Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. Immense distances separate PICs from each other and they range in size from Niue (population of 1,600) to PNG (7 million). The majority of the population of PICs is indigenous and traditional structures and religious beliefs influence daily life.

OHCHR - South East Asia Regional Office

The OHCHR Regional Office for South-East Asia was established in Bangkok in 2002 in order to strengthen OHCHR’s presence and partnerships in the region. The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) hosts the Regional Office under a Memorandum of Intent signed with the High Commissioner for Human Rights in February 2001. The Regional Office covers Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. It also supports OHCHR’s work elsewhere in the region.

OHCHR - South and West Asia

The OHCHR Headquearters covers countries in the South and West Asia region, including: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The South and West Asia subregion hosts a diverse set of human rights opportunities and challenges. Countries like Afghanistan and Nepal are in the midst of post-conflict transitions but face significant problems of insecurity, exclusion and impunity. Democratic institutions and the rule of law are on the brink of reform in Bangladesh and the Maldives. Conflicts persist in several countries, including Afghanistan, regions of India and Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, with resulting human rights violations and displacement.
