Hit: Skinny Tan specialises in treatments for self-tanning, hair care and skin rejuvenation
Ditching Australia for Britain boosted sales for the owner of Skinny Tan.
InnovaDerma, which specialises in 'at-home' treatments for self-tanning, hair care and skin rejuvenation, toasted record sales and profits in the first half of the year thanks to soaring demand for the self-tan product.
Skinny Tan, designed to reduce the appearance of cellulite, flew off Superdrug shelves after production moved to the UK from Australia.
Superdrug also put aside four times as much shelf space, boosting the product's in-store visibility.
Skinny Tan contains guarana, a caffeine derivative designed to firm the skin, as well as skin-smoothing ingredients.
It was founded by a pair of Essex-based mumpreneurs, Kate Cotton and Louise Ferguson who, in a bid to change the perception of fake tans, aimed to create one indistinguishable from the real thing.
It was originally backed by businesswoman Kelly Hoppen when the founders appeared on TV programme Dragons' Den in 2013 and InnovaDerma acquired the brand in May 2015.
The products are now available in 2,500 shops, including Superdrug, compared to just 250 a year ago.
InnovaDerma said sales in the six months to December 31 increased 125.5 per cent to £3.2million while gross profit was up 131 per cent to £1.8m.
