The customer is always right, they say - but a new list of ridiculous restaurant complaints may prove otherwise.

Restaurant bosses have sent in the most hilarious gripes they've ever had to deal with, including that the ice was too cold, and that the food wasn't 'Instagram worthy'.

TV food critic Giles Coren picked the funniest to read out loud in a new video which shows him baffled by the trivial nature of some of the complaints.

It comes as a study by OpenTable reveals that 60 per cent of British diners have complained in a restaurant about their food at some point - despite our reputation for keeping a stiff upper lip and not making a fuss.

But 44 per cent said they still sometimes shy away from moaning to staff because they're scared their food will be tampered with, according to the survey.

WOULD THE COMPLAINTS HAVE LED YOU TO CALL THE MANAGER?

- 'Plate colour clashed with food, was wrong colour for Instagram'

- 'The gazpacho was cold'

'I sent the chicken back as I asked for it medium rare'

- 'Not enough jam in this jam doughnut'

- Sending fish back because it was 'staring' at the diner

- 'The cutlery is too small'

- The food was served on a patterned plate and the diner insisted they change it to a plain white plate

- Diner said he'd been given a right-handed cup and asked for a left-handed one

- The 'ice was too cold - it should have been left out for a few minutes before serving'

- A diner thought that the table numbers were in order of service, so when table 22 got their food before her, she was not impressed

- 'The mushy peas were not mushy enough'

- 'The bread was too cold'

- 'The carrots weren't sliced evenly enough'

- Complaint that lettuce was too green

- 'Tapas dish was too small'

- A vegan couple complained that the table next to them were eating a whole duck; which meant they had no respect for vegans

- 'You put my drink down too aggressively, I don't want it anymore'

- 'The water jug is too full'

In the video, Giles Coren reads out a selection of the funniest restaurant complaints - and he ridicules the diners for their ridiculous gripes.

Coren had some advice for diners who find something wrong with their food though.

He said: 'From ice cream that is too cold to interior décor that doesn't look quite right in our Instagram shots, we all know that things can go wrong when we eat out.

'It is very important when complaining, however, to be polite and friendly to waiting staff at all times. After all, it is not their fault if there wasn't enough jam in your donut or – horror of horrors – your salad was too green.'
