She's the former Australian MTV host making a serious splash in Hollywood.

But Ruby Rose says she wouldn't dare call herself 'famous' back home in Australia.

The 30-year-old was on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Wednesday, reflecting on her celebrity status in her home country.

When Seth introduced her as hailing from Down Under and the audience cheered, the film star immediately became bashful.

'Thank you. I'm so proud to be from Australia,' she declared.

'I know you're very famous in Australia,' the host continued.

'I'm not very famous!' she said shyly. 'I'll get in so much trouble if you say that. They don't like hearing that back home.'

'I've heard you're as famous as two Russell Crowes?' he teased, to which she instantly replied, 'You're going to get me slaughtered!'

'You are right. Australians are very low-key people,' he offered.

Back in November 2015, the model-turned-actress revealed her big break came after moving to LA because she felt 'hated' in Australia.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph at the time, she said: 'My relationship when I left was like "oh my god, they hate me".'

'And that’s my country and I was born here and this is where my heart is and I felt like I have to leave, I had to leave' she added.

'I think people were sick of me and I think that I had done everything in Australia that I could do,' Ruby confessed.

Before the big move Stateside, the face of Maybelline Australia hosted her own TV show, radio show, had her own clothing line and fronted a range of campaigns as a model.

However, the raven haired beauty said Australia's tall poppy syndrome prevents hard working and successful people from getting recognition.

'We wait as a country, we wait for them to make it big overseas and I don’t necessarily agree with that. So yes, as soon as I got Orange (Is The New Black), and as soon as America kind of embraced me, I’ve had this huge resurgence in Australia.'

'I love people loving me here again, because it’s been a tumultuous ride,' she quipped.

Meanwhile, Ruby appears to be working hard at her craft, including learning sign language for her latest role in John Wick: Chapter 2.

During her interview with Seth, the TV host asked the Melbourne-born actress about having to learn sign language to play Ares in the film, a mute security enforcer and assassin.

'I was so excited to learn it,' she described. 'I think its a beautiful language and I actually wish that everybody could speak it because it's just so universal.'

The brunette beauty explained how it was unfortunate she only 'learned words I can’t have conversations with'.

'I'm not very famous!' she said shyly. 'I'll get in so much trouble if you say that. They don't like hearing that back home'

'Unless I want to say, "Hi, how are you, would you like to die now or later?" or like "run for your life, quickly, I’m going to get you!"' she laughed.

'They aren’t things you actually want to say to people,' she added.
