In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Selena explained she was attracted to the role of because of the struggles she's endured in the past.

'I was actually going through a really difficult time when they started production.

'I went away for 90 days and I met tons of kids in this place that we're talking about [with] a lot of the [same] issues that these characters are experiencing,' she said.
