Following the death of socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, hundreds of touching tributes have revealed a more vulnerable side to the one-time party girl.

She was discovered at her apartment in upmarket Bramham Gardens by her cleaner yesterday shortly before 2pm. Tara had recently revealed she had been receiving treatment for a growth in her pituitary gland and a rare auto-immune disease.

Among those to express their sorrow at her passing was Prince Charles, her godfather, and his wife Camilla; Piers Morgan; her ex-boyfriend Duncan James; fashion expert Gok Wan; and shoe designer Patrick Cox.

Journalist Polly Vernon, writing for The Telegraph, recounted how during their last interview Tara recited a prayer she said every night before she went to sleep.

Tara told her it went: 'Thank you, God, for a happy day. Sorry if I've been naughty. Please help me to be good tomorrow.'

Ms Vernon said: 'I found it quite heartbreaking. As I walked away, I remember feeling I'd been in the presence of someone, deep-down, incredibly sad.'

In a recent, unpublished interview conducted just weeks before her death, she was asked what drives her in life. ‘To make my family proud of me again,’ she said. ‘I’ve put them through a lot.’

Friends, acquaintances, journalists who interviewed her and strangers who were fortunate enough to spend time in her company were struck by her incredible warmth and generosity.

On Twitter, Tara's former I'm A Celebrity co-star Darren Day wrote: 'I'm so sad to hear that Tara Palmer-Tomkinson has passed away. Thoughts and love to her family RIP Tara x.'

Fashion expert Gok Wan wrote: 'So sad to hear of TPT passing away. So young...'

Shoe designer Patrick Cox penned: 'Tara Palmer-Tomkinson. Hadn't seen you in a while… Will always remember your birthday at Tramps when you made your entrance in a bikini and fur coat… A legendary Londoner. #tarapalmertomkinson'.
