A dad who battled testicular cancer has shared a photo of himself cradling his newborn son while his wife sleeps beside him, offering some wise words for others.

"After winning a battle with testicular cancer last year we finally got our first-born son," Imgur user 'AvidClimber' wrote when sharing it.

"Pro-tip: Real men take care of their baby while mummy takes as many naps as she needs."

"She's been through an ordeal! Suck it up guys and be her dream husband!"

The photo, which was posted on Wednesday, has already been viewed more than 400,000 times.

Many have praised the dad for his attitude. "Seeing parents work together (something I never got to experience from my own) makes me hopeful for your sweet baby. Thank you."

Another wrote: "I could cry. This is the most romantic thing a dad can do."

However, some dads pointed out that taking care of your kids should be par for the course. "You don't have to be a real man to take care of your kids. It's simply being a man," wrote one person.

Other commenters were more concerned about how his wife would react when she woke up and discovered he'd posted a photo of her asleep.

"Nice, she's still gonna kill you for sharing this pic of her sleeping though," one wrote.

Another person added: "Yup, she is so going to bruise you for posting her sleeping."

The picture has also proved to be an inspiration to other men battling testicular cancer.

"Fighting TC myself, bro. Just finishing my 2nd day of chemo. Congratulations to you!," wrote one man.

"Stories like this are exactly what I need now!"
