She's a blonde bombshell now! Girls star Allison Williams reveals her beauty secrets as she goes platinum for new cover shoot
She's going way outside her comfort zone.
And Allison Williams, 28, is loving her lighter look for the cover of the March edition of Allure.
The brunette actress decided to make a big change, but she has no regrets.
'I like it!' she told the magazine. 'Especially this blonde, it feels like it is just a new twist on the same old me. It's just hair!'
Blonde ambition! Allison Williams, 28, went from brunette to platinum blonde for the cover of the March edition of Allure magazine
The Girls actress, who just wrapped the last season of the popular HBO show, joked she's not sure who the new hair will make her become.
Allison's role as Marnie Michaels on Girls required that she keep her brunette locks, but now that she's done with the role, she is free to experiment.
'Maybe I'll become this gorgeous bombshell vixen. Or maybe I'll still just be the adult-spelling-bee spirit I've always been,' she joked.
She continued: 'I think if I'd used my middle name professionally—Howell Williams—I'd have a totally different career. I'd be an indie darling. I'd be fighting with Greta Gerwig for parts. I'd have gone blonde earlier.'
'I dig it!' The actress admitted in an Instagram post that she likes her new hair, but isn't quite used to it yet
Her new blonde look, courtesy of famed New York colorist Aura Friedman, brings a whole new look for Allison who admits she loves playing with makeup and pushing the boundaries when it comes to beauty.
In fact, the actress credits Allure magazine for giving her the push she needed to make the change.
'Here it is IRL,' she wrote on Instagram, along with a selfie of her new hair. 'Still getting used to it, but I dig it. Thank you @auracolorist and @rebekahforecast for helping me say goodbye to Marie -- and to @allure for the nudge.'
Beauty queen! The formerly brunette actress admits she learned a lot from the hair and makeup professionals she worked with on set
The formerly brunette actress admits she learned a lot from the hair and makeup professionals she worked with on set:
'I ask nonstop questions of hair and makeup people whenever I work with them,' she told Allure. 'One thing that comes to mind is something my makeup artist Gianpaolo Ceciliato told me, which is that you shouldn't curl your lashes after putting on mascara, because it can break them more easily.'
The actress also admit makeup hasn't always been her friend as she was plagued with skin problems during the first couple of seasons of Girls:
'I had to go on Accutane to get it under control. Luckily, Accutane took care of it really quickly,' Allison explained. 'I know that Accutane can be controversial, but I loved it so much that I really didn't want to go off it.'
The process! The actress documented her journey from brunette to blonde on her Instagram account
She's gone blonde! Allison admitted seeing her newly bleached hair terrified her at first
It's a process: The Girls star took a funny photo of the lightening process
She continued: 'I still break out from time to time, but it's almost always hormonal. My awkward phase was over by the time I hit ninth grade. It was fast and furious.'
As for her next career move, Allison says she would like to do something as far away from Marnie as possible.
'I love Marnie, but I don't feel like I need to play her a million times,' she revealed. 'I wake up every morning thinking I need to be edgier. I read very one-note. Teacher's pet, Goody Two-shoes. I'd hate to be annoying. Who wants to see movies with someone annoying in them?'
Silly! She posted one more silly photo as the dye was washed off her head
But, she reveals, she is a bit of a perfectionist and has quite a bit of Marnie in her real self.
She admits, she had to learn to abandon perfectionism to be happy.
'I do want to do everything right and in the best way possible. And abandoning perfectionism was a real struggle that I had to go through when I realized it's not possible,' Allison explained. 'But I'm a big note-writer, a big gift-giver. It's how I'm wired, and it's so boring and annoying.'
It's something she says she worries about all the time and working helps her deal with her anxiety.
'The fact that I'm working on all these other things means that I'm not spending my spare time in a spiral of anxiety.'
She's a blonde bombshell! the actress showed off her new blonde hair after the entire process was complete
The actress explained: It feels much better to work tirelessly on all these other things that are kind of unsolvable and thus deeply satisfying than to just sit somewhere and think, 'How do I harden myself publicly? How do I make myself seem edgier when I truly lead an un-edgy life?' I mean, then I got married, and now I have this dog who's perfect. It just gets worse and worse.'
But in the end, Allison says she probably wouldn't change a thing: 'I don't want to be any more interesting than I am. I love the life that I get to live, which is one of real independence and privacy and autonomy.'
Allison's next role is in the horror film Get Out, which is a complete 180 degree spin from what she's used to playing, allowed Allison, as she says, to 'flip the script about what I’m capable of as an actor.'
The film, which is written by Jordan Peele, is dark and, according to Allison, is 'going to make a lot of noise.'
Get Out hit theaters on February 24.
