William Shakespeare (/ˈʃeɪkspɪər/;26 April 1564 (baptised) – 23 April 1616) was an English poet, playwright, and actor, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet, and the "Bard of Avon". His extant works, including collaborations, consist of approximately 38 plays,154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright.
Shakespeare was born and brought up in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. At the age of 18, he married Anne Hathaway, with whom he had three children: Susanna, and twins Hamnet and Judith. Sometime between 1585 and 1592, he began a successful career in London as an actor, writer, and part-owner of a playing company called the Lord Chamberlain's Men, later known as the King's Men. He appears to have retired to Stratford around 1613, at age 49, where he died three years later. Few records of Shakespeare's private life survive, which has stimulated considerable speculation about such matters as his physical appearance, sexuality, and religious beliefs, and whether the works attributed to him were written by others.

To Be Or Not To Be - A soliloquy from William Shakespeare's play 'Hamlet'. To be, or not to be: that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep; No more; and, by a sleep to say we end The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks That flash is heir to, tis a consummation Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep; To sleep erchance to dream:ay, there's the rub; For in that sleep of death what dreams may come When we have shuffled off this mortal coil, Must give us pause. There's the respect That makes calamity of so long life; For who would bear the whips and scorns of time, The pangs of disprized love, the law's delay, The insolence of office, ...
Winter - A poem by William Shakespeare. 'Winter' is a short poem and a song sung by actors in two of Shakespeare's Comedies. This is part of an entertainment at the end of the comedy 'Love's Labour's Lost'. It follows a corresponding poem describing spring, and paints a vivid picture of the effects of winter on human life in Europe. Each line adds a detail which builds up the impression of cold, and the warmth used by men to resist it. About the author- William Shakespeare (baptised 26 April 1564; died 23 April 1616) was ...
This week, we're learning about sonnets, and English Literature's best-known purveyor of those fourteen-line paeans, William Shakespeare. We'll look at a few of Willy Shakes's biggest hits, including Sonnet 18, "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day," Sonnet 116, "Let me not to the marriage of true minds admit impediment," and Sonnet 130, "My mistresses's eyes are nothing like the sun." We'll talk about what makes a sonnet, a little bit about their history, and even a little bit about how reading poetry helps us understand how to be human beings.

It follows the pattern of three quatrains and a couplet written in iambic pentameter, with an ABAB CDCD EFEF GG rhyme scheme. ******** Full text: From fairest creatures we desire increase, That thereby beauty's rose might never die, But as the riper should by time decease, His tender heir might bear his memory: But thou, contracted to thine own bright eyes, Feed'st thy light's flame with self-substantial fuel, Making a famine where abundance lies,...

I saw you there, so beautiful
You stopped and stared, so magical
Then you asked me for my name
And we took an uptown train
Before you leave, get up to go
I wanna know
Do you like Shakespeare, Jeff Buckely
Watching movies on Sunday?
Do you like kissing when it's raining
Making faces in the station?
Do you like, I need to know
What do you like, before you go?
You walk me home, so wonderful
It starts to snow, it's incredible
Now we're walking up my street
And you slowly turn to me
You're three inches from my lips
But before we do this
Do you like Shakespeare, Jeff Buckely
Watching movies on Sunday?
Do you like kissing when it's raining
Making faces in the station?
Do you like, I need to know
What do you like, before you go? Oh, oh
Show me the place where you come from
And the places you dream of
I wanna know everything you are
But before we get that far
What do you like? I need to know
What do you like before you go?
Do you like Shakespeare, Jeff Buckely
Watching movies on Sunday?
Do you like kissing when it's raining
Making faces in the station?
'Cause I like Shakespeare, Jeff Buckely
Watching movies on Sunday
Kissing when it's raining
Making faces in the station
What do you like?
