Africa to Australia

Starting with the arrival of the First Fleet, many thousands of Africans have migrated to Australia, bringing with them their culture, their stories and their faith in a bright future.

Some came by choice. Others were driven from their homes and families by a variety of causes, including conflict, political unrest, economic uncertainty and famine. The stories they tell and the roles they play are amazingly diverse. Some are refugees; some are parents, spouses, brothers, sisters; some are athletes; some are activists, students, volunteers, neighbours. All of them are part of Australia.

Africa to Australia is an SBS interactive documentary that tells some of their stories; it uses video, photography and text to share views about immigration, racism, family and the struggle to belong in a new place.
