A woman has died after she fell from a shopping centre balcony in Melbourne's east on Thursday morning.
Police were called to Eastland Shopping Centre, on the Maroondah Highway in Ringwood, about 11.45am, a spokeswoman said.
The woman, yet to be identified, died after falling from the third storey of the shopping centre, next to the escalators, into the basement carpark.
Part of the escalators, towards the basement, have been closed to the public.
Emergency services are currently at the scene. A spokeswoman said the death was "not being treated as suspicious at this stage".
Eastland Shopping Centre general manager Steve Edgerton said he was "deeply saddened by the incident" and his thoughts were with the family of the dead woman.
"Our priority now is to provide support to our staff, retail partners and guests as best as we can, and counselling services have been made available to those affected," he said, in a statement.
"We continue to cooperate with the authorities as they undertake their response."
Police said they were investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the death. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
