Bedfordale bushfire downgraded to 'advice level'

A bushfire that was threatening lives and homes in Perth's south-east has been downgraded and is now contained.

A bushfire advice alert level still applies however for people north of Thomas Road, east of the railway line, south of Moore Street and Cooliabbera Drive and west of the Wungong Regional Park in Bedfordale, Mount Richon, Wungong, Darling Downs and Byford.

Rain relief for Bedfordale bushfire

It's been a long night for firefighters out in the south-east but there is some relief with the rain beginning to come down. Vision: Nine News Perth.

The alert level for the fire was downgraded on Thursday morning as the immediate threat has passed.

There is no current threat to lives or homes.

Although there is no immediate danger residents need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes.

WHAT TO DO:

Stay alert and monitor your surroundings.

Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames.

Close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible.

Read through your bushfire survival plan.

If you do not have a plan decide what you will do if the situation gets worse.

If driving be extremely careful when driving through the area.

Turn your headlights on and drive slowly.

The blaze is contained but not controlled.

A number of roads remain closed including:

South Western Highway between Thomas Road and Armadale Road

Moore Street. 

Rails Crescent.

Stone Street.

Dickens Place.

Cooliabberra Drive.

About 130 firefighters are strengthening containment lines and the fire has so far burnt about 125 hectares.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

The fire started just before 5pm on Wednesday near the intersection of Admiral Road and Albany Highway in Bedfordale.

By 8.30pm it had burned through 125 hectares of bushland.

Earlier on Wednesday a huge plume of smoke could be seen rising above Perth's southern suburbs.​
