Selena Gomez looked stunning in a cut-out dress during a press call in New York.

The beauty was promoting her new Netflix show 13 Reasons Why, a 13-episode show centered on a teen suicide.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gomez - an executive produce on the show -opened up about her self-imposed break from the public eye, during which she underwent rehab for depression.

The girlfriend of The Weeknd said: 'I went away for 90 days and I actually met tons of kids in this place that we're talking about [with] a lot of the issues that these characters are experiencing,'

The 24-year-old's slinky black and white dress featured a gap beneath the neckline that offered a generous view of her cleavage.

Gomez said at Wednesday's press conference that 'I was actually going through a really difficult time when they started production.

'I went away for 90 days and I actually met tons of kids in this place that we're talking about [with] a lot of the issues that these characters are experiencing,' she said.

Though she returned to Instagram on Thanksgiving after 14 weeks away, she's still off Twitter, and said Wednesday: 'It's hard right now. I can't stand social media, I can't stand what they're looking at.'

To hear her tell it, 'I can't stand what they think is reality and the show is real as it could possibly get.'

She feels the show's 'real' depiction of the difficulty of adolescence is crucial because 'Unfortunately, kids don't care. They don't care.'

In her view, 'They have to see something that's going to scare them. They need to see something that's frightening.'

Saying: 'I want them to understand it,' she expressed her desire 'to have a good influence on this generation but I definitely relate to everything that was going on.'

During filming, 'I was there for the last episode and I was a mess just seeing it all come to life because I've experienced that.'

While her own adolescence was in progress, she catapulted to international fame on the Disney Channel sitcom Wizards Of Waverly Place, which ran from 2007 to 2012.

She described the problems with that period Wednesday: 'Whether it was just kids, or growing up in the biggest high school in the world which was Disney Channel, it was also adults that had the audacity to tell me how to live my life.'

Gomez went on to explain that: 'It was very confusing for me, it was so confusing. I had no idea who I was going to be. It hits a very important part in me and I think this is what they need to see.'
