Deadly explosion rocks packaging plant in Louisiana killing three and injuring seven

Three people have died and seven are injured after an explosion at a Louisiana packaging plant.

The explosion at Packaging Corporation of America in Beauregard Parish happened around 11am Wednesday at 4200 U.S. 190 north of Lake Charles in Deridder, reported WREG.

It's yet unknown what caused the incident, which left three men dead who were working in the pulp mill area.

The container that exploded was 25 feet tall and contained 'foul condensate' according to 12 News Now.

'There's families that are hurting right now and they need your thoughts and prayers,' an emotional Brent Hansen, general manager of PCA, told the outlet.

The company released a statement saying that the explosion involved 'annual repair work being done' in the pulp mill area.

Several victims were brought to the hospital by medic helicopter after receiving chemical burns from turpentine, said the outlet. Turpentine can cause skin irritation, headache, dizziness and even death.

Six of the seven people have been released from the hospital, reported KPLC.

At least one person is unaccounted for, according to the outlet.

The fire has been contained.
