A Melbourne man went to extreme lengths to get some privacy from his neighbours. Photographer James Penlidis was outraged to discover the new house built next door to his home in Bentleigh and overlooking his bedroom, living room and backyard didn't have frosted windows as promised. In protest, he decided to do all of his household chores - including painting, cooking and cleaning - completely naked. He even rode an exercise bike in his yard in the buff. And his unusual campaign worked like a charm as it took just six days for frosting to appear on the windows.

The burqa-wearing wife of a former Islamic State recruiter faces legal action after she failed to stand for a District Court judge. Moutia Elzahed refused to stand for Judge Audrey Balla last December. Her lawyer said she did not stand 'for anyone except Allah'. In a dramatic statement on Thursday, the NSW Solicitor-General Michael Sexton SC announced he had authorised proceedings to be brought against Ms Elzahed. The legal action relates to 'possible offences' of disrespectful behaviour towards a court or judge, a spokesperson said. Ms Elzahed could face an $1100 fine or up to 14 days behind bars if found guilty of disrespecting the court.

Anton Pilipa trekked across two continents, walking mostly barefoot with just the clothes on his back, after he disappeared from his Vancouver home in 2012. His family spent years desperately searching for the former humanitarian worker, who suffers from suspected schizophrenia, and had almost given up hope when they got a call out of the blue. A Brazilian cop spotted Pilipa, who she initially mistook for a beggar, shuffling down a dirt track in bare feet, and dirty, unwashed Bermuda shorts and a vest. A mother of two has opened up about the terrifying moment she was told she had gastric cancer, while 19 weeks pregnant with her third child. The wife of the man who was trapped in a dam for five hours with his head barely above the water has praised his extraordinary grit and determination to survive. Daniel Miller, 45, became stuck after his excavator rolled at Charlotte Bay, New South Wales, where the couple run a hobby farm. Mr Miller spent hours with his nose just above the muddy water line (left) before he managed to arch his back and get his mouth out to call for help. Late on Wednesday his partner Saimaa Miller (pictured inset with Mr Miller) revealed incredible detail of her partner's ordeal, which she said lasted five hours.Ms Miller described how her partner had the 'weight of the excavator on his back' and the 'boggy dam ground below him' was slowly slipping away. 'It was literally sheer mental strength and determination to survive that got him through,' she said in a Facebook post thanking friends, family, neighbours and rescuers. Temperatures in north-west Victoria are expected to tip 45C on Thursday as the severe heatwave (inset) moving across Australia makes its way east. The temperature rose to 31C overnight in Melbourne (right and left) and is expected to hit 37C in the city by the end of the day, making it one of the state's hottest days yet this summer. Mildura and other rural towns in north-west Victoria will take the brunt of the heat as the temperature reaches a scorching 45C, according to the Bureau of Meteorology. The heatwave will linger over Victoria until Saturday and will begin to send temperatures soaring in Sydney on Friday.

A kind angler who paid thousands of dollars to take a lonely fisherman on the trip of a lifetime has slammed claims he was cashing in on the widower's heartbreaking story. Ray Johnstone (left), 75, felt so alone after his fishing buddy died that he placed an advert on Gumtree seeking a new friend to head out to the water with him. Mati Batsinilas (together with Mr Johnstone, inset and right), 22, rose to the occasion and dished out on all-expenses paid trip for Mr Johnstone, flying him from Adelaide to Moreton Bay, Queensland, and putting him up for three nights. Mr Batsinilas' and his friends took him on a tour of Stradbroke Island and struck up a great friendship as they reeled in some massive fish. But now the generous angler has faced claims he only took the pensioner on the trip to promote his fishing business - something he hotly disputes, not just because he does not even own one.

The girls are very happy and very excited about what is happening to them.' Madonna had been trying to adopt the girls for two years and made previous visits to the nation to visit them.

Vets have been forced to give a horrifically neglected dog a haircut after finding 10 per cent of her tiny body was made up of tangled, dirty fur. The dog was handed in to an RSPCA shelter in Victoria in a state of neglect, left, but has since been properly groomed, right, and seems very happy with her new hair do. Dr Rebecca Belousoff slammed the owners and said 'Grooming is not just cosmetic, it is an essential part of responsible pet ownership.'

Terrifying surveillance video (main) showed desperate mother, Jessica Wilson's attempt to hand her toddler to a McDonald's drive-thru worker as she battled the child's father, Levenski Crossty (inset), 27, who allegedly kidnapped and beat her. At one point, Crossty is seen in the video pulling Wilson's arm in what appeared to be an attempt to get her back in the car. She then makes it over the the drive-thru employee, who reached out for the little girl and told Wilson to 'hand the child to me', according to prosecutors. Once Crossty managed to pull the child away from Wilson, he got back in the car with the child and drove away. Wilson was left stranded and 'desperately asking someone to call 911', prosecutors said. Earlier in the day, Crossty allegedly beat Wilson and left her with two black eyes, a cut on her head and a bite mark on her hand. The incident took place in July 2016 but Crossty's trial began Tuesday. Crossty is charged with felonious assault, theft and multiple counts of abduction and kidnapping.

The unnamed man was filmed proposing to his apparent girlfriend in the middle of a food court in Brazil, as a violinist serenaded her. He is seen walking towards her with a large bouquet, before getting down one knee. But he did not get the reaction he hoped for - with the woman shaking her head at him before walking away.

Incredible footage has emerged showing the moment an overzealous carpet python regurgitates a tennis ball (pictured left). The footage, posted to the Townsville Snakehandler Facebook page, shows the tennis ball being messaged out of the snake's mouth (pictured top right) in the final seconds of what had been a delicate 20 minute operation. An eagle-eyed homeowner in Belgian Gardens had noticed the 1.5 metre carpet python slithering in the backyard with a huge lump (pictured bottom left) on Monday. Townsville Vet Clinic's senior veterinary nurse Trish Prendergast, who massaged the ball out of the snake, said: 'It probably smelt like food, maybe frogs'.

Known for his simple taste Stalin's holiday home is designed in a modest fashion despite it boasting a library and games room equipped with a billiards table.

Concerned animal lovers reportedly spotted the ailing three-and-half tonne jumbo, named Sanjay, tied up with spiked chains by his cruel captors in Gosaiganj, Uttar Pradesh, India. Government authorities in India tracked down the 'gentle giant' and with the help of an animal sanctuary managed to swoop in and rescue him. Vets said the 50-year-old animal had likely spent his entire life being coerced into performing at weddings and parties under threat of violence.

A problem-solving donkey has been caught on camera opening a wooden gate at a sanctuary in Ronco Scrivia, northern Italy. Sanctuary staff say he's much brighter than the other donkeys there and that his party-trick has become a regular occurrence.
