PAS 79 (Fire risk assessment – Guidance and a recommended methodology) is a Publicly Available Specification published by the British Standards Institution.
This PAS gives guidance and corresponding examples of documentation for undertaking, and recording the significant findings of, fire risk assessments in buildings and parts of buildings for which fire risk assessments are required by legislation (more specifically the "Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 in England and Wales, and the Scottish equivalent Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 in conjunction with the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006).
Intelsat 9 (IS-9) (formerly PAS-9) is an Intelsat Atlantic Ocean region satellite which delivers communications services throughout the Americas, the Caribbean and Western Europe. Following its launch from a floating platform in the Pacific Ocean (Sea Launch), Intelsat 9 succeeded the PAS-5 Atlantic Ocean Region satellite at 58 degrees west longitude, serving as the video neighborhood in the region as well as providing Internet and data services.
Intelsat 9 also serves as the transmission platform for SKY México's direct-to-home (DTH) service. The service employs a dozen Ku-band transponders on Intelsat 9 for the digital delivery of more than 160 channels directly to consumers' homes.
On 11 September 2001, the Al Jazeera network used the PAS 9 to broadcast the tragedies occurring in New York into Qatar.
The bill is a polearm weapon used by infantry in medieval Europe. The bill is similar in size, function and appearance to the halberd, differing mainly in the hooked blade form. Other terms for the bill include English bill, bill hook or bill-guisarme.
Derived originally from the agricultural billhook, the bill consisted of a hooked chopping blade with several pointed projections mounted on a staff. The end of the cutting blade curves forward to form a hook, which is the bill's distinguishing characteristic. In addition, the blade almost universally had one pronounced spike straight off the top like a spear head, and also a hook or spike mounted on the 'reverse' side of the blade. There were many types of bill. English bills tended to be relatively short, with broad chopping heads, while Italian bills (ronche) often had very long thrusting points. The English distinguished between several varieties of bill, including the black, brown and forest bills, but the differences between them are currently not fully understood.
An unidentified decedent, or UID, is a deceased person whose legal identity is unable to be determined by law enforcement. Although the majority of UIDs are identified soon after their bodies are recovered, it is not uncommon for bodies to remain unidentified for years or even decades. There are approximately 40,000 unidentified decedents in the United States at any given time.
A deceased body can be identified in several different ways. Most commonly, a relative of the deceased identifies the body by sight. However, if a body is heavily decomposed, skeletal, or unrecognizable due to severe facial trauma at the time of recovery, other methods must be used. Some other common modes of identification include fingerprints, dental records, chest x-rays, and as a last resort, comparing the deceased's DNA to the DNA sequence of a genetically close relative such as a parent or sibling. In some cases, circumstantial evidence can be used to formally identify a body; for example, if the deceased has a driver's license on their person, or is found deceased on their own property after going missing, those context clues can be used to make an identification. Since identification of a deceased individual is a legal matter, officials require a high degree of certainty in order to make a formal identification.
Bill (1973) is a compilation album of previously released material by Bill Cosby. All the routines are edited down compared to their original appearances on previous albums, some slightly, some considerably.
Plugs and sockets for electrical appliances not hardwired to mains electricity originated in Britain in the 1880s and were initially two-pin designs. These were usually sold as a mating pair, but gradually de facto and then official standards arose to enable the interchange of compatible devices. British standards have proliferated throughout large parts of the former British Empire.
BS 546, Two-pole and earthing-pin plugs, socket-outlets and socket-outlet adaptors for AC (50-60 Hz) circuits up to 250 V is a British Standard for three pin AC power plugs and sockets. Originally published in April 1934, it was updated by a 1950 edition which is still current, with eight amendments up to 1999. BS 546 is also the precursor of current Indian and South African plug standards. The 5 A version has been designated as Type D and the 15 A as Type M. BS 546 plugs and sockets are still permitted in the UK, provided the socket has shutters.
BS 1363, 13 A plugs socket-outlets adaptors and connection units is a British Standard which specifies the most common type of single-phase AC power plugs and sockets that are used in the United Kingdom. Distinctive characteristics of the system are shutters on the neutral and line (see Concepts and Terminology below) socket holes, and a fuse in the plug. It has been adopted in many former British overseas territories. BS 1363 was introduced in 1947 as one of the new standards for electrical wiring in the United Kingdom used for post-war reconstruction. The plug and socket replaced the BS 546 plug and socket, which are still found in old installations or in special applications. BS 1363 plugs have been designated as Type G
