Their whirlwind romance and engagement came to a heartbreaking end last week, with the singer confirming the news via Instagram.

And Kylie Minogue's close friends have lifted the lid on her ex-fiancé Joshua Sasse's alleged ill-intent towards the 48-year-old.

As reported in OK! magazine, a friend of the pint-sized entertainer said of her 29-year-old ex: 'We believe it all came down to a desperate attempt for stardom.'

The friend also revealed that Kylie's close circle had 'all been concerned about what Joshua's intentions were' since the former couple first met.

The British actor was even said to have 'made sure to attend events on her arm... and appear with her on TV and stage at every opportunity.'

It comes following reports that the Better The Devil You Know hitmaker paid $8,300 for Joshua's hair transplant last year, in the hopes it would further his career.

The Hollywood Reporter claims the father-of-one auditioned for the role of Hans Solo, along with over 2,500 actors, in the new Star Wars prequel.

And earlier this week, Joshua's Galavant co-star Vinnie Jones alleged that the actor had his sights set on Kylie from the start, despite claiming he 'didn't know who she was' before they met.

'I knew about them before anyone. Joshua was moving into her hotel the night before she came — on purpose,' Vinnie told The Sun.

Joshua famously claimed that he wasn't familiar with the international pop star, despite her three-decade long career.

He told KIIS FM 's Kyle and Jackie O: 'I'm not really a fan of popular culture so frankly, I just, I really didn't know who she was.'

Now that their engagement is no more, Kylie's friends and her sister Dannii are said to be trilled.

Speaking to KIIS FM on Monday, reporter and close friend of the Minogue family, Peter Ford, revealed: 'Relief is the word. They always had concerns. Dannii is like a sniffer dog. She can suss out a bulls**t artist anywhere and she did not like him.'

On Friday, Kylie herself confirmed the news of the heartbreak via Instagram. thanking her fans for their support.

Sharing a photo of a beautiful sunrise, the former Neighbours star wrote: 'Thank you for all your love and support throughout this recent chapter of my life. Thank you now for your love and understanding with the news that Josh and I have decided to go our separate ways.

'We wish only the best for each other as we venture towards new horizons.'
