The girls are very happy and very excited about what is happening to them.' Madonna had been trying to adopt the girls for two years and made previous visits to the nation to visit them.

John Gotti, one of the namesake grandsons of the infamous mob boss, will be spending eight years behind bars for his role in a drug ring after accepting a plea deal on Wednesday. Gotti entered a guilty plea on  three drug-related charges in Queens Supreme Court on Wednesday, and will serve time behind gars while also being forced to forfeit $259,996 in seized money. That sentence will be followed by five years probation, at which point Gotti will be a free man. The 23-year-old has been behind bars ever since his arrest back in August on $2million bail.

Timothy Deffner (pictured left and in inset), 55, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a field in Oklahoma after police say he killed his wife and mother-of-four, 49-year-old Cayann Patterson Deffner (seen left), and her divorce lawyer, Bryan Young, 47 (right), just hours earlier. Patterson and Deffner's marriage had been marred by allegations of domestic abuse and the wife had taken out two restraining orders against him in 2015.

A massive genome-wide study in the United States has revealed a 'historical portrait' of post-colonial population patterns across the country. In the study, researchers identified 'clusters' - or genetic communities - using data from more than 770,000 people born or currently living in the US. The study highlights the ancestral origins and migration patterns for specific groups to reveal the many different genetic communities Americans belong to. The map above shows the distribution of ancestral birth locations associated with these clusters.

It seems that Ivanka Trump's luck in the fashion world is continuing to wane, as it has emerged that TJ Maxx and Marshalls are both dropping special in-store promotions for her brand. Last week workers at the chains - which are both owned by TJX Companies - received word from management that Ivanka-branded items would no longer hold pride of place in the store. 'Effective immediately, please remove all Ivanka Trump merchandise from features and mix into' other products on the racks, the note, leaked to The New York Times, read. 'All Ivanka Trump signs should be discarded.'

Marc Mezvisnky (left last week) quietly shut down his hedge fund Eaglevale Partners back in December. Bloomberg reports that Mr. Chelsea Clinton (right in October with his family) and his partners are now working to return to money to investors. The decision to shutter the fund came just a few weeks after Mezvinsky's mother-in-law Hillary lost the election to president Donald Trump. A soldier welcomed his Afghan interpreter to the United States on Wednesday after buying him a plane ticket to ensure his quick arrival amid concerns the Trump administration might try to expand its travel ban to Afghanistan. Army Capt. Matthew Ball hugged Qismat Amin at San Francisco International Airport in a series of emotional embraces that marked the end of a years long battle to get the translator out of his war-torn country. The translator was worried that the immigration ban implemented by President Trump could be expanded to include war torn Afghanistan.

Vogue magazine has been accused of digitally altering the new cover featuring supermodels Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Ashley Graham. The March issue claims to celebrate beauty of 'all types' and also features fellow models Adwoa Aboah, Liu Wen, Vittoria Ceretti, and Imaan Hammam. But social media users claimed Gigi's hand, which is placed near Ashley's waist, looks unusually long.

Five circus performers were seriously injured in a fall Wednesday when a pyramid stunt involving famed tightrope walker Nik Wallenda (pictured main in 2013) went awry in Florida. The accident also involved several of his family members, but Nik Wallenda wasn't among the injured, authorities said. Eight performers were on the tightrope, practicing a pyramid stunt ahead of Friday's opening of Circus Sarasota, when they lost their balance and most of them fell. Nik Wallenda was the anchor for the pyramid. Pedro Reis (pictured at microphones, bottom right), founder and CEO of the Sarasota Circus Arts Conservatory which puts on the show, said that nothing was wrong with the rigging but that some performers lost their balance. He said the circus will open as planned.

Jessica Preston delivered her son Elijah at Macomb County Jail in Detroit, Michigan, on March 20 last year after being denied a trip to hospital by staff who didn't think she was about to give birth. The 27-year-old was eight months pregnant at the time. She was put behind bars for driving on a suspended license because she couldn't afford her $10,000 cash bond.

A house was caught on camera as it toppled over after being hit by a landslide in San Rafael, northern California. The wall of mud ended up snapping support beams and unsettling foundations. A police officer caught the entire collapse as he was paroling the street. No one was injured in the incident, but the home could be the first of many along the street to collapse.

The Ball family lives up to its name. High school basketball player LaMelo Ball of Chino Hills, California, managed to score an incredible 92 points in one game, helping secure a victory for his team over Los Osos High School on Tuesday, 146-123. The 15-year-old Ball, who managed to score 41 points in the course of eight minutes, went full speed ahead after his brother and fellow teammate LiAngelo sat out with an ankle injury. Their oldest brother Lonzo Ball, a freshman at the University of California Los Angeles, is projected to be a top-pick for the 2017 NBA draft. Three Malayan tiger cubs (left) were born on Friday at the Cincinnati Zoo. The adorable cubs are currently being cared for by staff in the zoo's nursery after their mother rejected them at birth. First-time mother Cinta's maternal instincts 'didn't kick in', according to the zoo's website. Now, nursery staffers are keeping the cubs warm (bottom right) and feeding them (top right) so the their body temperatures won't get too low without their mother's warmth. Zoo officials said it's not 'uncommon' for first-time tiger moms to reject their young and sometimes the mothers can be aggressive and even harm or kill their young. The cubs will be moved to Cat Canyon when they're weaned and no longer require constant care. Visitors should be able to see them in their outdoor habitat in early spring. There are fewer than 500 Malayan tigers left in the world. Major reasons for population decline include habitat destruction, fragmentation and poaching. Cincinnati Zoo is committed to ensuring the survival of endangered tigers.

Prosecutors on Tuesday said that Liam McAtasney, 19 (left, on February 2), planned the murder of his former high school classmate Sarah Stern (right) for six months. After strangling her to death, McAtasney had his roommate Preston Taylor (left inset, on Tuesday), also 19, hide her body in some bushes for eight hours. The two then dumped her body from a bridge into a New Jersey river. All of this was revealed as Taylor tried and failed to convince a judge to release him on bail.

An investigation of satellite imagery compares China's missile testing grounds and US military bases show a pattern - all of the missile tests have been aimed at destroying US carriers, destroyers and airfields in East Asia, the report said. Earlier this week, a highly accurate Chinese ballistic missile capable of threatening US and Japan bases in Asia made its latest appearance at recent Rocket Force drills. The medium-range DF-16 featured in a video posted last week on the Defense Ministry's website showing the missiles aboard their 10-wheeled mobile launch vehicles being deployed in deep forest during exercises over the just-concluded Lunar New Year holiday.

Henry Sembdner, 12, suffered serious head injuries when he was slammed to the ground allegedly by another student at Kenyon Woods Middle School in South Elgin, Illinois on Friday. The seventh grader, who was left with multiple face fractures and bleeding in the brain, was placed in an induced coma in hospital. He woke on Sunday and continued to show signs of improvement each day until doctors allowed him to return home on Tuesday.

The U-Boat, which was launched in 1943 was sunk shortly before D-Day by a flight of two RAF Mosquito fighter-bombers. However, the boat's First Officer Lieutenant Wilhelm Hinrichs kept a fascinating photographic album of the submarine, which is now coming up for auction in Maryland.

Bare-breasted demonstrators have taken to the streets of Argentina in protest over a recent incident in which police expelled topless women sunbathers from a beach under threat of arrest. Dozens of women and some male supporters protested at Buenos Aires' famous Obelisk monument and in other Argentine cities on Tuesday. The protest was held under the slogan: 'Our breasts should not be censored!' Some of the protesters had their chests painted with slogans such as 'Censor this' and 'We are not going to ask you for permission.'

Camryn Zelinger, 32, was arrested on Monday at the Encore High School for the Arts in Riverside, California after the mother of a girl, aged 14 or 15, reported their inappropriate relationship. The student's mother contacted police over the weekend and the teen said the relationship had taken place over the past few months. Zelinger has been charged with suspicion of lewd or lascivious acts with a minor and annoying or molesting a child under 18. Police said their investigation found there had been inappropriate physical contact and communications between Zelinger and the student.

NEW NASA astronaut Andrew Feustel, along with two Russian Roscosmos astronauts, have undergone a three-day winter training session in a forest at the Russian Space Training Center in Star City, Moscow. The three astronauts went to the Russian forest to train for a future mission to the International Space Station in 2017 or 2018. During the training, they built a hut from tree branches and plastic, which astronauts training at the camp also did last year using a parachute on their landing capsule.

The unnamed man was filmed proposing to his apparent girlfriend in the middle of a food court in Brazil, as a violinist serenaded her. He is seen walking towards her with a large bouquet, before getting down one knee. But he did not get the reaction he hoped for - with the woman shaking her head at him before walking away.

A problem-solving donkey has been caught on camera opening a wooden gate at a sanctuary in Ronco Scrivia, northern Italy. Sanctuary staff say he's much brighter than the other donkeys there and that his party-trick has become a regular occurrence.

Gigi, 24, gained fame on YouTube as a gay male teen before coming out as trans and documenting her transition process. Last February, she started dating Getty Oil heir Nats Getty, whose family is worth billions of dollars. She announced that she was a lesbian on YouTube in September. This month, she admitted that she never thought she would date women. She previously dated a man after her transition and said she was so happy to have been accepted for who she was.
