A far right nationalist political party. It was founded in 1988 by former members of the Australian League of Rights (ALOR). It expressed anti immigration positions early on in the parties existence. During the early 90s the CEC was hijacked by the LaRouche Movement, becoming the central Australian chapter of its political force. It began to express support for LaRouche’s wild anti British conspiracy theories and anti commonwealth stances. This brought them into conflict with the ALOR who were staunch monarchists, and eventually led their contingent to abandon the party. It is currently headed by Craig Isherwood.
Although a marginal political party, the CEC incur large sources of income and often conduct well funded campaigns for its representatives. It has also been brought into controversy due to its expression of anti Semitic anti Zionist economic conspiracy theories similar in nature to those held in the neo Nazi movement. Members have also been noted to make bigoted remarks towards Aboriginals, homosexuals, Jews and immigrants. Like other LaRouche groups the CEC enjoy a large youth following, believed to be cultivated through brainwashing and indoctrination tactics developed by the cult like mentality of the LaRouche Movement.
