Liverpool can still go for the Premier League title, insists John Barnes as he says Chelsea are not 'out of sight'

Liverpool legend John Barnes has offered hope to Chelsea's Premier League rivals by suggesting the title race isn't over.

Antonio Conte's side, who beat Arsenal 3-1 at the weekend, are nine points ahead of second-placed Tottenham.

They are also 13 points ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool but that hasn't stopped former player Barnes from saying the Blues could still be caught by the Reds.

'I don't think Chelsea are out of sight but Liverpool need to improve - the title race starts in March,' Barnes told the London Evening Standard.

'Liverpool can still finish in the top four if everyone gets behind Jurgen Klopp, who is a very good coach.'

Jurgen Klopp has watched his side go five games without a victory and Barnes believes with 14 games left there is still a chance of title success for the first time since 1990.

He said: 'Unfortunately we didn't get anyone in January.

'Signings would have helped but it's not all doom and gloom.

'We haven't got a huge squad so with a 14-15 man squad they will be tired.

'Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City all have bigger squads.

'City can take out [Sergio] Aguero and bring in [Gabriel] Jesus.'

Liverpool take on fellow title rivals and top four contenders Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

They will be looking for a first Premier League victory of 2017 when they face Mauricio Pochettino's side.

Spurs are four points and three places ahead of Liverpool.
