'Jose Mourinho wants to win every game... that is the difference between him and Arsene Wenger': William Gallas admits it is time for a change of manager at former club Arsenal

  • Arsenal have fallen 12 points behind Chelsea in the Premier League table
  • It is 13 years since Arsene Wenger led the Gunners to the league title
  • William Gallas played under Wenger and Jose Mourinho during his playing days

William Gallas believes Arsene Wenger's time at Arsenal is coming to an end and that he lacks the winning mentality of his managerial nemesis Jose Mourinho.

The Frenchman has failed to win the Premier League since 2004 and watched from the stands as his side fell 12 points behind leaders after defeats by Watford and the runaway leaders.

And the former Premier League defender believes a change may be necessary at the Emirates Stadium if the Gunners are to consistently challenge for silverware.

Talking to talkSPORT, the former France international said: 'You get criticism when you don't win trophies, when you don't win games, and that is maybe the difference between Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger.

'Mourinho wants to win every game and at the end of the season sometimes he has success but, for Arsene, Arsenal didn't win from 2004 so everybody starts to criticise him because football has changed.

'Football is about victory, about trophies. Players want to lift trophies. If you don't lift a trophy in your career, you will feel disappointed at the end of your career.'

Gallas played under both managers, winning two league titles at Stamford Bridge under Mourinho but failed to claim any trophies in his four years working under Wenger.

He continued: 'I don't know what Arsenal are going to do but they have to win trophies again.

'Maybe it is time to change something at the end of the season.'
