Stephen Aaron Root (born November 17, 1951) is an American actor and voice actor. He has starred as Jimmy James on the TV sitcom NewsRadio, as Milton Waddams in the film Office Space and as the voices of Bill Dauterive and Buck Strickland in the animated series King of the Hill. His other roles have included Captain K'Vada in the Star Trek: The Next Generation feature-length episode "Unification", and Gordon Pibb in DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story.
Root was born in Sarasota, Florida, the son of Leona Estelle and Rolland Clair Root, a construction supervisor. Root likened his childhood to that of an "Army brat", as his family moved frequently while his father finished each construction project. Root graduated from Vero Beach High School in Vero Beach, Florida. He received his AA from the University of Florida, and trained in the BFA acting program.
Among his most recognized television roles are eccentric billionaire Jimmy James on the sitcom NewsRadio and as the voice of depressed Army barber Bill Dauterive and Hank Hill's skirt-chasing boss Buck Strickland on the animated television series King of the Hill (Root originally auditioned for the role of Dale Gribble). He had a recurring role on the final two seasons of The West Wing as Republican campaign consultant Bob Mayer. His most recognizable film roles to date are as the mumbling, quirky Milton Waddams in Office Space, as the mild-mannered gymrat Gordon Pibb in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, as Suds, a drunk sports writer, in Leatherheads, and as the dimwitted principal in the 2008 Judd Apatow produced comedy Drillbit Taylor.
Andrew Roane "Andy" Dick (born December 21, 1965) is an American comedian, actor, musician, and television and film producer. Best known as a comic, he is also known for his eccentric and controversial behavior. His first regular television role was on the short-lived but influential Ben Stiller Show. In the mid-1990s, he had a long-running stint on NBC's NewsRadio and was a supporting character on Less than Perfect. He briefly had his own program, The Andy Dick Show on MTV. He is noted for his outlandish behavior from a number of Comedy Central Roasts. He landed in 7th place on the 16th season of Dancing with the Stars.
Dick was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on December 21, 1965, and he was adopted at birth by Allen and Sue Dick, and named Andrew Roane Dick. He was brought up Presbyterian, and as a child, he spent time living with his family in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New York, and Yugoslavia before moving to Chicago in 1979. He attended Lassiter High School, which was being temporarily housed at George Walton Comprehensive High School in Cobb County, Georgia. Dick appeared in numerous theater productions during his high school years and was elected homecoming king his senior year in 1983. While in high school, Dick tended to use his name as a joke; and one day, he dressed in a homemade superhero costume and presented himself at school as "Super Dick". Dick graduated from Joliet West High School in 1984, and is a friend of actor Anthony Rapp, whom he had known since childhood. After graduating from high school, Dick joined Chicago's Second City, attended Columbia College Chicago, and took improv comedy classes at iO Theater.
NewsRadio is an American television situation comedy that aired on NBC from 1995 to 1999, focusing on the work lives of the staff of an AM news station. It had an ensemble cast led by Dave Foley, and was the final regular role played by Phil Hartman, until his death after the fourth season.
The series was created by executive producer Paul Simms, and was filmed in front of a studio audience at CBS Studio Center and Sunset Gower Studios. The show's theme tune was composed by Mike Post, who also scored the pilot.
The series is set at WNYX, a fictional AM news radio station in New York City, populated by an eccentric station owner and staff. The show begins with the arrival of a new news director, level-headed Dave Nelson (Dave Foley). While Dave turns out to be less naive than his youthful appearance suggests, he never fully gains control of his co-workers.
The fast-paced scripts and ensemble cast combined physical humor and sight gags with smart dialogue and absurd storylines. Plots often involved satirical takes on historical events, news stories, and pop culture references. The third- and fourth-season finales took the absurdity to the extreme, setting the characters in outer space and aboard the Titanic.
David Scott "Dave" Foley (born January 4, 1963) is a Canadian actor, comedian, director, writer and producer, best known for his work in The Kids in the Hall, A Bug's Life and NewsRadio.
Foley was born in Etobicoke, Ontario, the son of Mary, a homemaker, and Michael, a steam-fitter.
NewsRadio is an American sitcom, originally broadcast from 1995 to 1999 by NBC. In total, 97 episodes were broadcast spanning 5 seasons.
Joe Rogan was missing from the pilot episode - but he came in strong for the second episode and was treated as an equal part of the team during station meetings, etc, although he was allowed to dress down because of his casual position at the station. He was always a key ingredient to the comedy involved on the show.
Air Date : December 11, 1996 Jimmy teaches Beth how to play the stock market, but refuses to help Bill. Matthew pretends to have flown to Japan, bringing back gifts for the office, including a samurai's katana sword for Dave. Lisa is reluctant to ask for a new chair because she doesn't want it to look like Dave is playing favorites.
These moments taken from season two. Joe was the fix- it guy. But he seemed to always be hanging around the station and was included in all the station meetings. He brought an added dimension to the comedy of the show.
One of my favorite clips of Joe Rogan and Khandi Alexander on News Radio. "Joe" and "Catherine" discuss wooing a woman also known as "Winning One Over" Season 2 Episode 8
He proved he could do it. But then he didn't have to. Joe was a comedian and a prankster.

Ohhh, how meta. Some guy with a Hi-8 camcorder hangs out with the crew while episode 03x23, "The Mistake". A pretty awesome POV into the nitty-gritty of a three-camera sitcom. No copyright intended or implied. 343 Productions, Sony Pictures Enteretainment, NBC, blah blah blah, don't take this off Youtube for fucks sake.
The clip shows Jimmy James lecturing his staff on the importance of advertising. From the NewsRadio episode "Rap" (Season 3, Episode 12). Original Air Date: 8 Jan 1997

Let me be your leader
Let me have control
The way I see it
It's got to be right for you
I could be your pilot
Through the stormy seas
The way you see it
It's just a case of trust in me
I could be your hero
I'll be your piece of mind
The way that I see it
It's got to be good for you
I wanna be your brother
If you need a friend
The way you see it
It's got to be right by me
Winners--losers
Takers--users
What do you see in your crystal ball for you?
Do you see an old wound fade into the blue?
I will be your lifeline
If your ship goes down
The way that I see it
You've got to have faith in me
I wanna be your partner
Through the darkest nights
The way you see it
It's always just you and me
Midnight screamers
Daytime dreamers
What do you see in your crystal ball for you?
Do you see an old wound fade into the blue?
