2017 Volkswagen Amarok range revealed

Volkswagen rolls tweaked styling and fresh tech into its Amarok range. 

Following on from the arrival of the new range-topping V6-powered Amarok Ultimate late last year, the German car makers has extended the styling cues and in-car features to the rest of the range. 

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel remains unchanged, with two different tunes of the four-cylinder available. The TDI400 produces 132kW of power and 400Nm of torque while the more potent TDI420 version boasts 132kW and 420Nm. The former is paired exclusively to a six-speed manual while the latter is only available with an eight-speed automatic.

Exterior alterations include a revised front bumper, while four-wheel drive variants now get a new underbody guard which increases ground clearance by 34mm. 

On the inside the refreshed Amaroks gets a new multimedia unit which is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a reverse camera with rear parking sensors. Cab chassis variants miss out on the camera and parking sensors. 

Autonomous emergency braking has been added to the brand's suite of safety equipment, however, like the new V6 models the rest of range misses out on potentially life-saving rear curtain airbags. 

Volkswagen has thrown some extra gear at its Core Plus models including carpet floor mats, new cloth seat trim, front parking sensors, extra 12-volt sockets, rear grab handles, new interior lights, body coloured mirrors and door handles and autonomous post collision braking. 

The updated Volkswagen Amarok is now on sale locally.
