Billy Murray (April 18, 1892- March 4, 1926) was an American boxer in the early 20th century.
Although initially starting off rather weak, with 3 wins, 2 losses, and a draw, Murray had an incredible win streak afterwards. He was undefeated his next 49 fights, against boxers such as Anton LaGrave, Johnny McCarthy, Jimmy Clabby, and many others. However, he was defeated twice in a row by a boxer known as George Chip. He won 2 more consecutive fights, and then lost the next 9 fights in a row. He fought 24 more fights afterwords, bringing his record to 60 wins (45 by knockout), 16 losses, and 9 draws.

Ada Jones (June 1, 1873 – May 2, 1922) was a popular mezzo-soprano who recorded from 1905 to the early 1920s. She was born in Lancashire, England but moved with her family to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the age of six in 1879. She started performing on stage, including juvenile roles in the 1880s.
In 1893 or 1894 she recorded some musical performances for the North American Phonograph Co., including "Sweet Marie" and "The Volunteer Organist". But the demise of this company interrupted her recording career and it was not until 1905 that she returned to recording, after a few years doing performances at such locations as Huber's 14th Street Museum in New York City. She recorded several duets with Billy Murray and Len Spencer. She sang in a range of accents and dialects.
Ada Jones recorded "The Yama Yama Man" in 1909 for Victor Light Opera Company. The lyrics for verse two and three were changed from the original, verse two being more bawdy. It was the most popular song of her career, spending five weeks at number one.

Charted at #1 in May 1906. The title on the recording is "The Grand Old Rag". Cohan had been inspired to write the song when he encountered a civil war veteran who was holding a tattered U.S. flag. He said to Cohan, "She's a grand old rag". The title was later changed to "You're a Grand Old Flag" after many people objected to the word "rag". From the musical, "George Washington, Jr.". Written by George M. Cohan.

William Thomas "Billy" Murray was one of the most popular singers in the U.S. in the early decades of the 20th Century. While he received top billings in Vaudeville, he was best known for his prolific work in the studio. He recorded on nearly every label, making him one of the best selling recording artists of his era. Backed by Al Dollar and His Ten Cent Band, Murray performed the "Popeye the Sailor Man" tune in 1931 which predates the cartoons by two years. Footnote: Murray also performed the musical version of Rube Goldberg’s comic strip song hit "I'm the Guy" in 1912.

William Thomas "Billy" Murray (1877.5.25 - 1954.8.17), one of the most popular singer from early 20th century, sings one of his most famous song, "Pretty Baby" for Victor in 1916. The label is gone, I only know that it was a black Victor bat-wing record. This is the only Billy Murray record and only Tin Pan Alley Song record which I have in my possession. Played on my Victrola with Mica Soundbox. Anyway, as I cannot show you the label, I made a Music video which is consisted of some cropped images of various postcards beauties from early 20th century taken from my collection, and a 16mm film clip, also taken from my collection. (I don't know when or where it was made, but I guess it was filmed in early 1900s.) Hope you to enjoy this! (^.^)

You can bring Pearl, she's a darn nice girl,
But don't bring Lulu!
You can bring Rose with the turned-up nose,
But don't bring Lulu!
Lulu always wants to do
What the folks don't want her to.
When she struts her stuff around,
London bridge is falling down!
You can bring cake or a porterhouse steak,
But don't bring Lulu!
Lulu gets blue and goes cuckoo
Like the clock upon the shelf.
She's the kind of smarty breaks up every party,
Hullabaloo loo, don't bring Lulu,
I'll bring her myself!
Last week we had a party, a real high-toned affair,
And then along came Lulu, wild as any Zulu.
She started in to Charleston, and how the boys did stare,
But when she did the hula-hula, then she got the air.
You can bring Flo, her dad's got dough
But don't bring Lulu!
You can bring Lil, she's an awful pill,
But don't bring Lulu!
Lulu has the reddest hair, auburn here and henna there.
How can we boys keep our heads?
Bulls go wild when they see red.
You can bring peas and crackers and cheese,
But don't bring Lulu!
When she gets sore and slams the door
The plates fly off the shelf.
She can make a feller wild on sarsaperilla.
Hullabaloo loo, don't bring Lulu,
She'll come here herself.
You can bring ham and crackers and jam
But don't bring Lulu!
Lulu goes wild, and when she's wild
She climbs upon the shelf!
She can make a pastor be a dancing master.
Hullabaloo-loo, don't bring Lulu,
I'll bring her myself!
